I missed the show before I left NYC and am hoping to see it sometime in the new season at a commercial venue. The reviews seemed strong enough...anyone know anything...?
Funny you ask this. I saw the play again the other night (This was #8 for me) and I noticed the production team there taking notes and really focused during the show. I don't see any reason for that many people being there doing what they were doing a week before closing unless a transfer was being planned.
As I said in a post a couple of weeks ago, I spoke to one of the producers at Rock of Ages awhile back who said he was planning on bringing this to Broadway. Glad to see it's still on track. A great show that deserves to reach and even greater audience.
Wow, they want to bring it to Broadway? Interesting. I was just thinking it would probably move to a bigger Off-Broadway house. There are only huge Broadway houses available now which a small play like this probably couldn't survive in.
I do hope this entire cast stays with it though, especially the glorious Connie Ray.
He said specifically Circle in the Square. Idk if anything else has been announced yet for it, so maybe it's still in the running.
An interesting choice for that show. I know there are rumors of OUR TOWN coming there and also FOR COLORED GIRLS...
Didn't Our Town announce they were extending into 2010 in their current location?
I read a rumour that Kushner's new play was eyeing the Circle in the Square, but haven't heard that repeated since (well, except for now, but I'm hardly one to quote on that).
Everyone involved with FOR COLORED GIRLS... has moved on to other projects.
The rumors of OUR TOWN transferring were completely unsubstantiated. Considering the show just extended Off-Broadway through January, I would think any talk of a Broadway move has been squashed.
Sonia Freedman and the team behind the London revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES have looked at The Circle in the Square. They're hoping for a spring launch, so NEXT FALL could certainly enjoy a limited run there in the fall if both productions end up being interested in the space.
I'm not so sure THE INTELLIGENT HOMOSEXUAL'S GUIDE... (the new Kushner piece) is ready to be moved just yet. It was received very strongly at The Guthrie, but last I heard they were planning a workshop at The Public later this year.
That jives with what I've heard. It would be nice to see La Cage in an intimate space like Circle in the Square.
Yowza. I can't imagine sitting through this show eight times. Not because it isn't brilliant (it and Ruined are the best new plays I've seen in ages). I just can't imagine going through that emotional journey so many times. I don't think I could handle it. I think it's a show everyone should see. Once.
It's an incredible show. Part of me hopes it transfers for more exposure but the other part of me kinda hopes it won't. It's almost certainly destined to be a financial failure...but then again, you really never know.
That would be very nice if NEXT FALL were to actually transfer, so that I can ACTUALLY see it. It's also nice to see that Kushner's new piece is still up and coming as well.

I thought it was terrible.

Man, that would really be a mistake to transfer this to Broadway. It's a terrific off-Broadway play but I believe it would suffer the same fate as Reasons to Be Pretty, Passing Strange, and Caroline, or Change. I just do not understand why Broadway has to be the be-all, end-all dream destination...(sigh)
It would be very nice to transfer this show to a larger, more comfortable space though.

Man, life just got so crazy and I missed this show. Has anyone had any luck with cancellation or something similar thus far? The last four performances are sold out, but if there's hope I am completely willing to try.

But what Off-Broadway spaces are available that aren't non-profits or theater companies already? I mean there's New World Stages, but I don't feel like that would best suit this show.
