Posted: 4/7/05 at 10:29amThis is the twisted idea I came up with. Sweeney Todd and avenue Q. They are two of my fav musicals and I think itd be so F***ing funny watching it with puppets. I don't know really what Id do as far as twisting the plots but it would be funny.

We have done this at Camp Broadway. They had to be 5 min mini musicals. This what I've done...
Little Shop of Horrors and JCS called Jesus and the Giant Peach...Jesus is sent by God to sacrifice himself to a giant man eating peach, (we had to go with a peach bc we had to include a special prop the day we performed these) our songs included "I Don't Know How to Feed Him" "Suddenly Jesus" and "Jesus Christ Little Shop" I thought we were going to get struck by lightning that day but everyone said it was the best so that's good!
The 2nd one I did was Fiddler on the Roof and WSS and called it "Fiddlin on the West Side." It's the Jews vs Catholics and Chava and Tony fall in love at the gym and you know, their people don't like it etc. Our songs for this were "When You're a Jew" "If I weren't a Catholic" And we changed the words in A Boy Like That and Somewhere. It was so clever the way it tuned out, I was Chava when we did this.
I was a counselor 2 years ago so this is what I did. My group and I combined How to Succeed and 42nd St. and called it "How to Succeed in Show Business..." Peggy Finch finds the book on how to make it bway and she goes from curtain girl, and charms and schemes her way to chorus girl to supporting role to leading lady by knocking off people that were in her way. I did song parodies of the songs How to Succeed and 42nd St.
I've seen some other clever ones, my fav one my sis did was Detention Tango which YAGMCB and Chicago combined. All the Peanuts gang singing the detention tango. It was soooo funny!

LOL, Bwaybaby, those are great.
Hm, how about two of my faves, Avenue Q and Ragtime...
Anti-Monster racists trash Kate's Monsterssori School, so she rallies a group of her fellow Monsters to avenge this injustice. Princeton joins her cause after Emma Goldman helps him find his Purpose. ("What do you call yourselves?" "We are all righteous Monsters. We call ourselves... KATE!" "KATE!" "Now we're all KATE!") Mother and Rod form a touching bond as they help each other find themselves, as an emancipated woman and a gay puppet, in a changing society. Tateh the Penniless Immigrant strikes it rich when he meets Trekkie Monster and, with Tateh's inventiveness and Trekkie's money, they join forces to build an Internet Porn empire. Lucy pushes Evelyn Nesbit off her velvet swing and becomes the new sensation of Vaudeville. And Brian and Christmas Eve name their new baby Coalhouse.

Posted: 4/7/05 at 11:06pmI think it would be fun to take the characters from Avenue Q and put them in any other musical. How about West Side Story? Kate Monster as Maria, Xmas Eve as Anita, Princeton - Tony, Mrs. Thistletwat - Officer Krupke, Trekkie - Riff, Rod - Chino, Nicky - Bernardo, Brian - Glad Hand, Gary Coleman - Doc.

Hey, BwayBaby- I went to Camp Broadway in RI about three years ago, and totally forgot I did an adaptation too! I did West Side Story and the Sound of Music...
