Hey Brody--
Just wanted to thank you for your kind--and apparently, sincere--offer to sell me your $10 ticket for seven-and-a-half times what you paid for it. It was tough deciding between your ticket, and general rush for about $21, regular mezz tickets in the same section for about $31, TDF for $32.50, a really great seat for $69, or even another poster's offer for $15.
I guess I must be the village idiot...last week I sold my ticket to A Steady Rain for exactly what I paid and this week, I'm doing the same for Othello! Oh well, to each his own; viva capitalism and happy theatergoing to you, BrodyFosse.

Oh no, I may have to get a general rush ticket; Brody, you are too much! Are you sure you don't work on Wall Street?

Posted: 9/23/09 at 8:23pmApril, do you go around on message boards trying to buy people's $10 tickets, because I remember you making a similar post with Bye Bye Birdie.

Posted: 9/23/09 at 8:25pm^ Exactly. Why can't she just buy them when they go on sale?

And if there were many other cheap options (such as what you listed), why didn't you just buy one of those? They were not that much more.
What is this, a charity?

Hey guys--
No, I don't consider this a charity; hopefully, it's a place where people share their common passion for theater. I'm a single working mother living ninety minutes to two hours from NYC, and often can't make plans until the last minute; I almost bought a ticket for this weeks ago, then decided I better not, because I was supposed to work and I'm trying to save my personal days for family emergencies. Today, I read all the excited posts of the people who went last night and realized I might be able to get done with work early enough tomorrow to make it after all.
I've also noticed it's pretty common, since the $10 tickets are so inexpensive, for folks to often pick up more than what they end up needing and offering them for sale here. So it really didn't seem at all strange to ask if anybody had an extra. Likewise, I've found homes for tickets I couldn't use on this board, either selling them for what I paid or giving them away.
I try not to judge anyone on these threads; I was pretty clearly teasing Brody about wanting $75, that's his choice! The thing about boards like this one is that you don't always know very much about the people you're talking to--or talking about.
I'm here because I love New York theater, and--in spite of the obvious obstacles to enjoying it on a regular basis--I find it to be a wonderfully cathartic, nourishing experience in my life.

AprilSaul, I'm 100% with you. Just because you're local doesn't mean you have the convenience of living in the city. Sometimes you simply can't plan ahead or have to take the risk that you won't be able to see a show you have tickets for.
Also, I thought you were serious in your regards to someone above selling a ticket at a 750% increase of what it originally cost. Even if I ever consider selling a ticket for a little extra cash I quickly feel like a jerk and sell it for what I paid for or less; to do anything else is really unconscionable, at least in my opinion.

Posted: 9/24/09 at 12:25pmThanks, Rudy...Yeah, I have nothing against people re-selling tickets--I even have a good friend who does it for a living--but for some reason, I haven't been able to bring myself to do it myself, even when I'm holding a hard-to-get ticket that a lot of people want!
