Anyone Going to Andrew Lippa and Friends Night in LA? — Page 2

Let's see what I can remember from last night.
First off all, it was just...amazing. I enjoyed every minute of it, and I could not believe the immense talent from everyone in Kids Next Door. A few of which I was incredibly impressed with were the woman singing the song about saying no to subscribing to Liberty magazine (I LOVED that song), the guy who sang the New Years Eve song (he was so adorable), and the blues medley that they all did! SO GREAT!
Steph BLEW the house down with her rendition of Defying Gravity at the end of act one. She got a standing ovation, and was absolutely floored that she did. She was standing on the stage just...in shock. At the end of it she went, "We're not over yet! There's more!"
Act two opened up with Lippa, and I just have to say that I am in love with that man and his talent. He has such a stage personality, and he's corny and adorable and his music is completely breathtaking. I LOVED Kamillah doing "Life of the Party", and the "Poor Child" quartet with all four of them was just..breathtaking. Both songs from Wild Party. Seeing Andrew play "Raise the Roof" was amazing as well, and I really did want to sing along (I did, softly, even though he encouraged us to, hah.)
Lippa and Steph (as Baby) did a song from Asphalt Beach called "More is More", I believe, and Lippa also did "Live Out Loud" from A Little Princess. I think that was the second song he did (sorry that this isn't chronological), and it's one of my favorites of his.
He talked a little bit about doing Man in the Ceiling, and the plot of Asphalt Beach, and just told some great stories.
At the end, all the Kids Next Door came out and sang "Beethoven Day" from You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown with Lippa...it was lots of fun.
And then as a finale, all the Kids Next Door and the alumni came out, and Stephanie started them off singing "Silent Night"...and it was all just very beautiful.
All in all, a very fun and exciting night. Lippa signed CDs after the show, and everyone hung out in the lobby for a while.
I hope more events like this come to the LA area!

Hey everyone. My name is Brian and I am one of the Kids Next Door members who performed the other night with the old Kids Next Door members. I must say, being part of that show was one of the most breath taking and beautiful experiences I have ever had. To stand up there side by side with Kids Next Door members new and old was such a unique experience. Andrew is such a great person and a talented musician. Standing in the room with Andrew, Stephanie, Terron, Kamilah, and the rest of my Kids Next Door family (new and old) was truly inspiring and humbling moment. Though I loved performing the greatest part about the whole experience was standing backstage with all the Kids Next Door alum's. It was almost like a giant family, and incredible network of people, who all shared a passion for music and theatre, and a love for each other.

The Tony nominee Popular referred to is Jonelle Allen. She was Tony Nominated for "Two Gentlemen of Verona" in 1972. She played Grace on "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman". You'd never know it by she was born in 1944!
"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

I took a few pictures at the event, if you guys would like me to post them to show here! They're a little blurry, though, unfortunately.

Pictures! It sounds like the concert was VERY different (even just Andrew's section) from the night in NYC. Which is cool. I'm very jealous you guys got to hear a rendition of Poor Child. Thanks for the details! Love them!

Brian, you all should be very proud! You put on a wonderful night. The way you feel about your "family" of performers is exactly in sync with the vibe I got from sitting in that room. There was most definitely a collective feeling of "that's our baby!" up there with every person who sang. How lucky of you to belong to such a talented and supportive group!
That's it, Jonelle Allen! Thanks for reminding me of her name, BB6.
It was great reading everyone else's reviews. I agree with achancetofly, more events like these NEED to happen in L.A.!

Alright, here are some photos from the other night. Apologies for the massive size and the blurriness--I didn't want to use the flash.
Here's Lippa at the piano. I think this was during "Live Out Loud".
This is everybody starting "Poor Child" from Wild Party. SO sorry that this one is so awfully blurry. From left to right, it's Stephanie J. Block as Queenie, Andrew Lippa going over to the piano, Danny Gurwin as Burrs, Kamilah Martin as Kate, and Terron Brooks as Black.
Hooray, a much better picture. I love this one.
This is at the end, with all the Kids Next Door and Stephanie singing "Silent Night". This was one of the few that I did use flash on (if accidentally..)
And for my own bragging rights, here are the pictures of me (and my friend Gabi accompanying me) with Andrew and Stephanie:
Hope everyone enjoys them! And if anyone has any others, please post them!

That picture during Poor Child is great.
And Andrew's outfit looks slightly familiar....
That was in NYC. Haha.

You know what, I do have a review already written, but have been waiting on photos from the house photographer... I will have to check back today and see what is going on with that.
