My directing professor is friends with Dana Ivey and he told me she workshopped the Witch at one point.

Oh wow, I would have loved seeing her in the role. She must have been fabulous.
I doubt Buckley was good in the role and the idea of Rashad doesn't really excite me either.
I wish I had seen Marin Mazzie go on (if she ever did), since she understudied the part.

I thought Ellen Foley did the role in the San Diego tryout -- when was Betty Buckley involved?

Pretty sure I've heard LuPone was offered the role as well, but turned it down for the Anything Goes revival...

Why was Ellen Foley the Witch in San Diego? I never understood that. The most random casting.

Phylicia took over once Bernadette left. She performed at the Tony Awards. Did anyone see her interpretation? I've got a feeling she wasn't very good, at least from the Tonys clip.
