While watching one of the Broadway.com videos, I was struck by an image.
I think the ad they chose looks odd. They all look fake, at least to me.
I totally agree. I LOATHE the ads they are using. That is a beautiful picture- but I have seen better logos than the one they are using on Broadway at local community theatres.
I hate that maroon color they're using. I think that the image on the adds of the cast also cuts out most of the dancers. That image you posted is striking. Maybe you could suggest it through a letter to a cast member or something?
Yeah, I prefer the picture you posted, kyle. You get a different perspective, literally.
I personally can't stand the poster, it looks a bit tacky.
They have already printed everything for the show. Playbills, window cards, the marquee, programs, shirts, etc. They wouldn't change anything now. I just don't get why so many broadway posters are so drab looking. Who is designing this crap? And more importantly - who is APPROVING it?

They could have had a wedge of Mr. Hankeys in gold lamé doing a high kick - "A Chorus Line" would still sell well.
Hell, it would probably sell better!
Even if the show will sell well no matter what, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be trying to put forth the best possible image to represent the show.
I agree, kyle. The image they're using is really tacky. Not sure what they were thinking...
I'm glad someone else said it.
I've hated the logo for the new ACL from the moment I saw it. I might change some of the lighting for the picture you choose, but I agree that it is striking; and certainly a better choice.
Yes, I don't think that picture is the BEST choice for the ad. But one with a few modifications would be amazing.
When the very first ads--just the gold title against red--started to pop up everywhere, they got me excited...I wasn't a fan of the "CGI"-ness, but they stood out. I have been disappointed since then, though. Their official ads could have been so much more creative with all the money they pumped into marketing. Actually, forget creative...they just could have looked better. As has been mentioned, the figures look fake, like a bad Photoshop job.
When I read the title of the original post, my blood pressure skyrocketed and I got all ready to start typing up a strongly worded post about how immature and mean-spirited you'd have to be to start a thread with a title like...
Then I read the thread title again.
Oh.
It doesn't say "Anyone else think the ACL LADS are ugly?"
I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
Cause if you think they're ugly, good god, you'd fall over dead meeting me.
(and most mortals, I'd imagine...)

It looks nothing like a photo. It looks like DREAMWORKS Presents the Animated Feature Film of the Pulitzer Prize Winning Musical; A CHORUS LINE
Does the Playbill havd the cast staring into the sky also? Or is it just the logo against the maroon?

Finally some came out and said it! The entire campaign is SO UGLY! The actual logo looks like someone used cheap photoshop effects on the original. Ick. You'd think with all the rest of the "restoring" they did they'd play up the nostagia. I'd think a very vintage, 70's, black-and-white scheme would have been MUCH more effective! Why update the logo, etc. when you make a point to not change anything else??!?
I like the screencap above, but it's a little reminiscent of the "RENT" movie promotional photo, ain't it?
I like the side-profiling of the current ad. We get to see their faces and eagerness, anticipation, self-doubt, anxiety!
I also thought in the beginning they would use a vintage ad campain. It would bring nostalgia to the older crowd and make the younger crowd feel like they are seeing it back in the 70s. Being part of the original magic.
Not to mention the fact that vintage inspired ads seem to be "in" right now. I'd rather look at the current Gap campaign than at A Chorus Line window card any day!
I dont like their logo... the red background with gold fonts... ew.

i dont mind the gold on red letters, but the image of the people really looks cheap. just the color of it, and the pose and everything...i dont know
when i first saw the logo, i thought, "oh i guess those are just publicity shots they're using before they get a real logo", but i guess not
basically, they need to change that picture!
That is an amazing picture.
But I guess the ad they chose looks more "period" while this once seems a little more mordern.
But still, this one you have is more striking and tells more about, making them faceless. That is one thing I hate about the ad they are using.
The photo highlights the actor's profile. You can see the expression on their face, hence form a relationship with the specific characters. Wow, that was deep.
Not a fan of the ads. But, it could be worse.
just a huge photo of Tyler would be fine!
