seeing it tonight, in syracuse... i'm excited. kind of nervous though, don't know why.
I just have to remember to take tissues. I can't make it through I'll Cover You (reprise) without bawling! Even when I am just listening to it.
I'm bringing my boyfriend to see it tonight. He's seen the movie, but never the show, so it should be interesting.
I am bringing a friend who just relocated to NYC and has never seen Rent before -not even on DVD! Can you imagine?
Have tickets to Chelsea, but would love to swap for the W. 84 Street location. Rather late in the day to make the switch, so we'll just head over.
I am rather excited, yet nervous. Not sure what to expect. However, I was lucky enough to see it twice on the final week, twice with the original cast, and seven other times during its 12 year run.
I'm seeing it tonight in San Bruno with someone that has never seen the movie or the show before. We're both looking forward to it!

The friend I am going with saw the original cast and then saw it with me during the 1st national tour. He was impressed with the tour.
Seeing it in a few hours! I'm very much excited. =]
I'm seeing it tonight with my sister and a friend (my friend loved the last tour that came through Seattle, it was her first time seeing the show). My sister and I are also going to catch tomorrow night's showing. She may also try to catch the Saturday show, as she is a pretty big Rent head. She even has plans to take a week off of work to catch every single performance of the Adam/Anthony tour next year when it comes. It's kinda funny because I actually bought the Rent cast album when it came out, and I let her borrow it so she could have a listen, and she kinda stole the album from me, and has been hooked ever since. I never was really too into Rent until recently.

Well, I attempted to see the seven o'clock show tonight at the theater closest to me (Bellingham, MA). After waiting for over a half hour, the movie didn't start. The manager of the theater came into the theater adn told us that there was a problem and tonight's show was cancelled. She said we could get a refund and exchange our tickets. She also gave us passes to another movie. So I am trying tomorrow. Hope others had better luck.
BYW-the theater was less than half full, but it is a Wednesday night. Who knows how tomorrow will be.
im going there for my birthday party sunday =-DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD VIVA LA VIE BOHEME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw RENT tonight and i thought it was great! I really wanted to make it to NYC to see this cast but didn't get the chance to, so it was wonderful that i got to see it somehow!
And to answer the questions about the intermission, there is a 10 minute intermission. They just left the camera running on the empty stage during the actual intermission of the show.
I saw it last not. In a nutshell, I was not as impressed as I had hoped to be. The film comes off like an MTV video. The cameras were all over the place. Very few times did the camera pull back to let you take in all that was going on in a scene. Instead you got a lot of close-ups of hand gestures, groin thrusts(!), head turns and facial reactions. In my opinion it sucked most of the relationships between characters right out of the show. As for the cast....the show was pretty well sung. A lot of notes that we are used to being held longer are cut short and the show has lost its rock edge. I don't know the names of every cast member but the guy who played Mark (Adam Kantor?) seemed to just walk through his part. Will Chase just had no personality in the part. Ms Goldsberry (Who I saw in Color Purple) while posessing a wonderful voice, was very miscast as Mimi. The two that came off best in the film, in my opinion, were Ms. Espinosa and Ms. Thoms. And I was waiting for mr. Mcelroy to nail I'll Cover You (reprise). He didn't. He has a great voice and I like what he did with a lot of his songs, but the reprise just lacked some passion and was mostly vocal "styling". I could go on, but I won't! If you have not seen it yet, judge for yourself. Also, they gave out survey shhets and one question was where you heard about the film. Other sites were listed but BWW was not. A few of us went to the kids that were handing them out and told them we were writing in this site and checking it off. And at the theater I went to in Denver, it was shown on a smaller screen so we lost about a foot of the film at the top and bottom of the screen. When the movie started, the projectionist did not open the curtains fully so for Act I, we also lost about a foot or two on either side. During intermission I went to a manager and he called the projection booth and we at least got the curtains open fully so we didn't lose that film on the sides. The disappointment of this film actually makes me want to see the upcoming tour even more. I know want to see it onstage so I can take everything in. And I hope they cast some fresh new talent outside of Pascal and Rapp to bring this show back alive. JMOs
Saw it last night in Long Beach, CA. Perfect projection and perfect sound. a GREAT show. Going back on Saturday for a second helping.
Overall, it was very nice to see and my friend who had never seen Rent, just loved it. Matt Caplan was a slightly better Mark than the last time I saw him, meaning he wasn't entirely offensive, but he's never made the character sympathetic for me. I didn't really care much about Mark the way I did when performed by Rapp or Butz. I do agree that there were simply too many close-ups and shaky-cam shots. It got to the point where it was nearly impossible to tell where people were on the stage and what was going on. It badly needs a re-edit.
At what point did Over the Moon become a hammy vaudeville act? In 1996 and 1997 it certainly wasn't. And I don't remember that in the first national tour. But somewhere along the line on Broadway, it stopped being about Maureen's performance art and morphed into the actress-playing-Maureen's SNL comedy sketch. It's a pity because it was one of my favorite scenes, but now, I can't wait for it to be over. It was better last night than when I saw the show in 2006, but it's still a ridiculous mess.
As far as the experience of seeing it in a movie theatre, it was fun. I wish the volume had been cranked up, however. Everything was basically at the same general conversational level and it lost some of the intensity. But the audience had a good time. They clapped for individual songs just as if they were at the live performance. They clapped along with Seasons of Love, etc. And everyone even sang along in the Seasons of Love reprise after the curtain call.
All in all, it wasn't the best cast I've seen, but far from the worst. It was a good time, but I think I'd rather see the tour, which I believe I will.
A lot of us were waiting for the extra footage or special features that never came. I seem to recall that in the initial announcement for the film it was said that we would get some extra's. The montage during No Day But Today was nice, but I will let you in on a little fantasy ending I have thought about for the final performance in the theatre...It would have been nice to have had all of the cast members past and present represented and right at the final No Day But Today, a picture of Mr. Larson ended the montage on the back wall of the stage and stayed there through the encore of Seasons of Love. Yes we got his picture in the movie, but I think it would have been nice to do that night. (Or maybe they did? We did't see the film onstage, only the one done for the movie)
Well, I saw it last night and have no complaints. I thought it was an incredible capture of the show. Even the quick camera shots seem to match the drive I feel when seeing the show live.
I especially loved Life Support/Will I?, Another Day, I'll Cover You and Your Eyes/Finale.
For some reason I thought there were going to be interviews at the end of the show. I thought I read that some where.
I saw it last night and overall enjoyed it very much. What bothered me as well, were all the close ups. And boy were they close up (You could see cast member's fillings!). I thought the cast was good with the exception of Goldsberry. Good voice but I felt she was over the top with some of those facial expressions. It's funny but we had problems at the theater also. For almost twenty minutes they couldn't get the screen that tells you to "silence your cell phones" to change. The movie started about 45 minutes late!
We're going tonight at the theater on 86th street. I'm glad to have read such positive reviews. I friend at work got the tickets and I'm so grateful to her since i've been way too busy to get them. In light of how good people are saying this is, I'd be really bummed if I didn't see it.
