Anyone see Blue Man Group before?

As an end of the year thing, the program that I am in is doing a day trip to Boston. During our time there we will be seeing the Blue Man Group.

Now, I have never seen them before but I was wondering if there was anyone out there who had seen them who can tell me what it is like and what to expect. I have heard that it is a party atmosphere during their shows. But, I am not sure how much of a party atmosphere I would be getting considering that I am going to a 1 PM show.

As someone who is a drummer for 13 years I am very much looking forward to it and I am very excited about it.

I guess what I meant by the "party aspect" was that while there are some shows that one could easily go alone without a problem Blue Man is not one of those shows. I could be wrong, I have never seen them before but I am looking forward to it very much.

I've seen Blue Man in New York, Boston, Vegas and London.
By far, the best production is in Boston.

Boston was the first city i saw the show and saw it alone. The party aspect of it doesn't get spoilt if your on your own as it encompasses the entire theatre.
The London production was far to big and alienated a lot of the audience.

I saw the Toronto company and went in (like you) having no idea what to expect. And I LOVED it! Have fun!

I went in barely knowing anything about them. I only went because we were offered comp tickets and I thought, 'why not.' For me, it was a pretty cool experience.

I am going to be seeing the sit down production in Boston at the Charles Street Playhouse. If I like it I might consider seeing the original production in New York at the Astor Place Theatre.

From what I understand their three original sit downs were in order in New York City, Boston and Chicago. From what I gathered all three of those shows are the same. The only cities that have shows created just for them are Orlando at the Sharp Aquos Theatre and Vegas at The Venetian.

I went in today and I loved it. I walked in there not knowing what to expect and walked out a happy man having enjoyed every second of what it was I was seeing on the stage. Considering that I am a drummer I loved it even more. It really sparked my interest when, after hearing it, I realized I could play a vast majority of the things that the drummer in the band was playing without much problem. They were hanging outside in the lobby after the show to collect for BC/EFA and we ended up talking shop. I told him that I had been drumming for 13 years and he was kinda surprised when he found out that I was 19 for that to be true. But, after telling him that I started when I was six he was more the surprised.

I actually am considering auditioning for it. And, after hearing how they do the audition process for the band it sounds like it is something that is right up my alley.

If I do end up auditioning I will keep you guys posted. I found that the way that they do it is kind of interesting. Instead of having you go in there and play a song for them, at least for drums, they have you go in there and they play a few beats that are used in the show. They then have you play it back for them and see how well you are at learning by rote. This is right up my alley because although I have been drumming for a long time and am able to play some pretty complex stuff. I cannot for the life of me read music.

It's okay, I like Cap'n Crunch :). Truth be told I don't have what it takes to be a Blue Man. In order to do that job, you need to have an athletic built body, very strong acting and improve skills and be a very good drummer. I have two out of the three in that I am a very strong actor and drummer but I don't have an athletically built body.
