The marquee is now up at the Imperial! I was checking out what was up at TKTS yesterday afternoon and decided to walk past Tarzan and then bam!!! There it was! I stopped mid-sentence and said "Oh, wow!" That's not because it was spectacular or anything because it is just the logo they have been using, the yellow one, but because I had been by the Imperial sometime in the past two days and it was still DRS. I went around to the entrance side to see what that looked like and it just the logo on the sides. There is nothing up top, yet. I am hoping for something pretty there. :)
This time next week and I'll be in Boston ready to see High Fidelity! I'm excited!

They begin the lotto two and a half hours before the show and draw at two hours before the show.

Posted: 10/1/06 at 6:36pmThanks for the info. I saw the matinee today (I already had a ticket) and I am seeing the evening show tonight (I did lotto). I don't think many people know about the lotto, so if you are in the area I'd say go for it. They also still have the $25 student rush tickets an hour before the show as well.

I saw the matinee yesterday [the 30th], i liked it a lot and it's going to be very good once they tweak it a bit. these were my thoughts..
I was really disappointed with the first song. I thought and will stand by my opinion that the show should start with the break up and Desert Island Top 5 Breakups. The song that kicked off the show was a good song, but WAY too long and broken up by dialogue, so it DRAGGED. it wasn't energetic enough to engage the audience, IMO.
I liked Number 5 With a Bullet, it was a good song for Jenn. I HATE how they portray the five ex-girlfriends though. It's so cheesy, and I don't think there's any reason for that.
Katy Mixong who plays Liz, has a great voice and did a great job with She Goes but her wig is HORRIBLE. All I could think of when I saw her was "Oh, there's monica lewinsky.." She played the role in a mix between ghetto and southern [accent], which made NO SENSE at all. I was expecting a business-classy chick how Joan Cusack played it in the movie, but this portrayal was not it at all. I really hope she tweaks how she plays the character before it comes to New York.
Christian Anderson was FABULOUS as Dick, one of my favorites. His song "It's No Problem" is ADORABLE, and he's just so perfect in the role. I can't really say anything else. Surprisingly, Jenn Colella didn't really have that many songs, which was kind of ironic. Jeb Brown was perfect as Ian, at first I thought he'd be too old for the part, but he was really great. Jay Klaitz was [sadly, maybe happily?] a Jack Black-clone in the role, though he did a few little things to make the role his. I didn't understand the role of Johnny the Drunk, that was purely for laughs, I think, and it should be cut, I think.
Nine Perfect Chance is still my favorite song and it was a GREAT Act 1 closing number. a great song, really funny, Christian's adorable in it, and the three or four store patrons are a nice touch.
I was really pissed that Too Tired was cut. They inserted Wonderful Love and though it was a really pretty song, it's sung by both of them and completely CHANGES how the mood of Rob and Laura getting back together is supposed to be. In the book and the movie, they're in Laura's car after the funeral and she's just all, "I'm sick of Ian, sleep with me? I don't have the energy to be with anyone else." And he is a little taken-a-back but says okay, and then they're back together happily still. But now? It's like a fairy tale romance of them both being like, "Oh I love you so much! Lets get back together!!"
If you want to see Will rap, this is your show. The "Conflict Resolution" was three different imagination sequences of what Rob would've done to Ian when he came into this store, and it was using different musical takes, and one of them was a ghetto rap scene, in which Will rapped, hahahhaa!
the only other comment i have is about the closing. it's a cute number, but i had NO idea it was the ending. it's not a big enough ending, and how they hollywood-ized the rest of the show, it hought it would end with a reprise of some kind, or something that made me it obvious it was the end. it just wasn't clear.
Will was GREAT. he's great in this role, and he's doing a great job with what he's being given right now and will only get better! he sounds great, he looks great, and he looks like he's having a blast!
the sets were really great! they were really versatile and moved all around and changed, and they made really great use out of the space that they had. i was really impressed because there are a lot of scenes in the show!
So, there are still a bunch of changes that [IMO] need to be made, but for an out-of-town it was totally worth traveling to see, the cast is great, and I can't wait to see what changes are made by the time they get to New York!

Ack, I should have hit refresh before I posted--I didn't see your post til afterwards. Thank you for the info/review!
I LOVED "Too Tired" and am really sad to hear it's gone. It was easily my favorite song out of everything I've heard so far. The description of "Wonderful Love" leaves me with a very "meh" feeling.

I was at the matinee yesterday (9.30) too, and I agree with a lot of what sundaymorning said. So just to echo a few of those things...
First off, the sets were fabulous, and the transitions from one scene to another were very smooth. The lighting was really great as well.
I really liked most of the songs, but felt that the length of some of them should be trimmed down a little. The first song (The Last Great Record Store) especially...it was a good opening number and I enjoyed the song, but was stretched out a bit too long. A few of my other favorites were "Number Five With A Bullet" (Jenn's energy was amazing in this number and vocally she sounded great), "It's No Problem" (Christian's portrayal of Dick is spot-on. He plays it similar to the movie but has his own spin as well), and "Desert Island Top 5 Breakups" (mostly just because Will sounds great singing it and it's a fun song). I also thought that even though it was a little cheesy, "Wonderful Love" was a good number, but was one of the songs that could be trimmed a little...maybe cut a verse or two for both Rob and Laura.
I know this has been said by a few of the people that have already seen the show, but the Conflict Resolution scene near the top of Act II truly is one of the best (if not THE best) parts of the show. All of the scenario's were hilarious, but the final one, with Will rapping was the highlight in my opinion. My friend and I couldn't stop laughing throughout the entire scene and then for about 10 minutes afterward. Dick's little part was very amusing too. :o)
There's a lot more that I could write about, but I'm going to start summing it up by talking about the cast a little. I thought that everyone was great, had fantastic energy and looked like they were having a blast performing the show. Will is PERFECT in this role, IMO. It was the first time that I'd gotten to see him perform live, and I was definetely not disappointed. Jenn was great as well. I do wish that there were more parts for her to sing though. But her "Number Five" was great. Christian Anderson as I said before was fabulous as Dick, and as sundaymorning said, Jay Klaitz was good, but played Barry just like Jack Black. Katy Mixon was enjoyable as Liz, but she took a little while to grow on me. At the beginning of her first number I couldn't hear her all that well and was hoping she'd project a little more, which she did.
Overall I enjoyed the show, and thought that it was very fun. Sure, there are a few things that need to be changed before it heads to NY (like the final number-when it ended I turned to my friend and went "Wait, that's it?"...it just didn't seem right), but I think that it has great potential.
I guess that's it for now...I don't think I've ever posted anything that long! Haha, sorry.
Oh, and I just wanted to throw this in as well- met most of the cast afterwards and they were all very nice and gracious. Many of them asked everyone how they liked the show and really seemed interested in getting opinions. Will Chase and Jenn Colella were especially sweet. :o)
