I want to hear all about it. How was the score? The sets? The show curtain? The cast? Was it packed?

The set (it was basically several big pieces that kept revolving) was amazing, easily one of the best parts of the show. The transitions from Rob's apartment to Ian's apartment was very well done, particularly one split scene in the opening of Act II.
The curtain was really nothing special. It was a curtain...I think there was some red/gold lights projected onto it, but nothing special.
The score was...mediocre. There were some good songs, mostly for women, and Act II seemed to have overall better songs, but the score needs work, along with the character of Rob and a fair amount of Act I, as Rob (or maybe Will?) comes off as very unlikable. However, this is this great comedic montage in Act II where Rob fantasizes different reactions to something Ian says, which uses different genres and was a highlight of the show.
The cast was pretty good, overall. Will Chase seemed slightly uncomfortable, and was trying to use this like hard rock EXTREME voice for a lot of the spoken dialogue, which got old really fast and lacked personality. The rest of the cast, particularly Dick and Liz (though her singing was not what it should have been) were hysterical.
The audience was far from packed. There were a lot of seats open in the Mezzanine, I'm not sure about other areas.

Just curious. No one has mentioned anything about the choreography. Was there much of it? And if so, did it work within the show ? Was it exciting, etc? I just wondered as Gattelll'is work in Altar Boyz was so pitch perfect. Thanks.
BDrischBDemented, did you find the musical was more like the book or the movie? I found the book completely amazing and fantastic. I'm seeing the show in the middle of October.
I'm seeing it with a couple of fellow BWWers!
Also, can anyone confirm the rush/lotto thing?
I thought I did in another thread since I called the box office directly, but I later saw in the Boston Globe in the Sidekick section yesterday that there was lotto.
But the box office people said no.
I'm confused.
Is Jeffrey Sellers producing the show? I was at Intermission Tavern after our opening night of Spelling Bee, and he was there along with the cast..I must say Will Chase is gorgeous in person!

Sellers is producing the show, and I've actually never seen the movie or read the book, so I can't say for sure. It's credited as being based on both in the Playbill, if the does anything?...
There wasn't a ton of choreography, but what choreography there was, I wasn't wowed by. The score and the book need work. Particularly I'd like to see Laura's character fleshed out a little more. The score, in my opinion right now is fun, but lacks integration.
The sets were amazing and the lighting was fabulous.
The show has a good start, but it has a ways to go before it hits Broadway.

Wait, so there is or there isn't rush? If so, is it rush or lotto? I'm so confused!!
There is 25 dollar student rush.
My friends and I showed up at like 6:45 for a 7:30 curtain, and we had no problem getting four rush seats, orchestra row M.
do they have merchandise up yet for the show? i collect Broadway magnets so that's mostly what i'm asking about

There was no merchandise as of yet.

So I'm assuming this means that the Colonial is just selling whatever seats they have left for rush? My friend and I are probably gonna go see the show tomorrow.
Oh, and there's no rush for Saturday nights, only the matinee, correct?

Let us know how it goes. Any idea if the marquee is up at the Imperial?
Yeah, they just gave us the best four seats that they had left.
RentBoy86: I was in the city yesterday, and the DRS marquee was still up at the Imperial.

Thanks for letting me know. I thought maybe they'd have it up by now, but I guess they probably won't until it closes out of town.
There is a lotto for $20, 26 seats in the first two rows I believe.
I did the lotto. There were only three pairs of people, six in total, who were buying lotto tickets. It was pretty sad, they were practically giving out the lotto tickets, asking if I had any other friends who were interested in seeing the show.
The sets were definitely the best part of the show. They were great. Easily worthy of a Tony nomination at the very least. I thought the show overall was fun but not perfect or finished. The score needs to be worked on, some of the characters need to be fleshed out more, etc. I found Will Chase to be good for what he was given. It was only the fourth performance and I'm sure he will get better as changes are made and he becomes more comfortable in the role. He sounds great though. Christian Anderson was funny. The show in general was funny, but a lot of the jokes landed flat. However, the sequence in the second act with the different fantasies about Ian was absolutely hilarious. It is golden. If the rest of the show were on the level of that one scene, it would be ready for Broadway and the Tonys. For now, it needs work. Not a bad show but not yet a great show.

This strikes me as another Mambo Kings - it may come, it may not come.
Just remember that a proposed transfer and set theater doesn't mean a thing.
It has pretty powerful producers behind it. I can't imagine it not coming in. Then again, remember that WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND marquee up at the Martin Beck?
Saw it this afternoon.
I agree about the sets being amazing.
There were a few good songs, not much choreography, and I wasn't thrilled with a story about people bitching for 2 hours.
Needs a lot of work before Broadway, looking forward to seeing it again though and seeing what changes were made.
