What are the approved shows, and why is there a list of approved shows? What, the big bad republicans cant take a little sex, gay love and cursing?
I'm not really understanding this?

Nope, they cannot! They have their own little world I suppose!

Oh. My. Lord.
STOP IT. FOR THE FIFTIETH TIME, THERE NO "APPROVED" SHOWS.
They chose shows based on inoffensiveness, yes, but also based on whether they were willing to sell them huge blocks of discounted tickets. I'm sure plenty of perfectly good shows, especially plays, were skipped over because they sell too well or they didn't have enough seats to accomodate giant groups.
And the senior Bushes are going to Hairspray, complete with Edna Turnblad, and at least one Republican delegate has tickets to The Boy From Oz, big gay smooch and all.
There's plenty of reasons to hate the Bush Administration without turning to false minutae like this.

Not unless its over the phone.
well-said plum. i would add that these shows have the broadest appeal, so they could actually USE the tix they purchased as opposed to having a giant block of tix left over.
I think the word approved is being used here because that is the word being used in the press.

The press being Frank Rich, who started a lot of this nonsense with a column a while back. I like the guy a lot of the time, but that was way off.
And also a lot of stuff I have read and seen. Not just Frank Rich.
Sorry if I got anyone upset. I just wasn't sure what the "approved" thing meant. I know the Bushes are going to see Hairspray--I was just wondering, why this was such a big deal.
Um...remember the NAKED BOYS SINGING flap about a week or so ago?
That was deemed 'inappropriate' and was taken down.
So yes...they are 'approving'. Much like most theatre parties...you know 'What would be the best show for everyone to see?' type thing.
And Matt...GENIUS!
laura bush and daughters went and seen wicked awhile back & it's not on the approve list....so i really doubt its because some of the shows are to offensive. there isnt anything in wicked that would offend a republican or less they have something against green people.
How about the 'unelected official' line?
