I am visiting London the last week of March and the first week of April. There are two young teen children and three adults in our party and we require four beds so we started looking at apartments to let. One apartment or town home is in Chelsea off Kings Road on Margaretta Terrace. Another is in South Kennsington on Exhibition Road next to the Victoria & Albert. Another group of possibilities are on Canary Wharf. I hate to impose but does anyone have any opinion on these locations? Ease to the underground. Ability to get a cab? Safe?

Thanks!

You may want to post this on the West End board also. I am sure they can help you out as they live there.

Chelsea and Kensington are both good areas, you shouldn't have trouble, both are easy access to everywhere, especially the west end. Chelsea has Sloane Square Tube station and in Kensington there are 3; West Kensington, South Kensington and High Street Kensington (all tube stations), plus you have Olypia and Earls Court and Gloucester Road Tube stations nearby too. The Buses go everywhere, there are loads of services, and the bustops have the timetables printed on them and the routes, so that would be easy to get around. Black Taxi's are Everywhere! And very easy to Hail. Both places have plenty of shops, restaurants and nightlife. If you wanted another way of finding a reasonably priced apartment you could search on;

As they have everything on there. I have lived in both towns Have Fun. Happy Holidays.

Here's a suggestion for you: go to the link I've posted below, and click on the "Oyster Card" icon. You can order this card before you go to London and use it on the buses and Underground. You order a pre-set amount, and then, as needed, you can "top up" the amount when it gets low. It will save you a lot of time getting around, since you won't have to queue for undergound tickets.

As for the areas you mentioned, Canary Wharf is a bit out of the way; South Kensington and Chelsea are a bit closer to Central London. My preference would be South Kensington -- you'll be close to the park, the V&A plus the Natural History museum, and the Royal Albert Hall.

Also, be sure to check out some of the London Walks. Information can be found here: www.walks.com They have walks for every interest. The kids might find the Jack the Ripper tour interesting -- it's a bit gruesome in some of the descriptions, but it was very informative.
