New Jennifer Nettles musical, GIULIA, will premiere in NY this fall

Jul 20, 2026 — 2:00:32 PM

I saw Giulia last week and went in with high expectations because of the subject matter, the director, and the creator coming from another medium—pop country. I came out disappointed that it never quite gelled. The production, from the direction to the sets and costumes, was perfectly in period, some of it gorgeously so. The score was my first disappointment. It was an amalgam of styles—pop, rap, Broadway, and some interesting turns on Italian folk and religious music. It worked hard against t...

TITANÍQUE Reviews

Kad said: "Deitch has largely been pretty vague, so it's hard to knowexactlywhat she's talking about. What little she has offered simply does not align with the reality of AEA contracts, so it may very well she is referring to something else or conflating different things. It's possible that the producers exploited a ROFR loophole in that the Broadway transfer wasn't at all the first subsequent production and that's what she means. Perhaps that cast signed a separate contract regarding rights...

TITANÍQUE Reviews

Reading these reviews, while there are a few negative ones, many of the positives reviews are raves. Lots of pull quotes. It can only help future licensing. But with business across BWay so sluggish - no show is difficult to buy tickets for - they will struggle unless anyone actually reads reviews other than us. If they do these reviews are pretty good and will draw folks looking for a laugh.

Broadway Fire Sale?

Anyone noticing a ton spring discounts being offered? Advance sales must be hurting. Spring is usually where the highest sales and attendance numbers are made and discounts are usually in short supply..

DEATH BECOMES HER - Replacement Cast?

Apr 7, 2026 — 12:19:46 PM

Based on the grosses and the shows weekly nut "Death..." is gong to need major names to entice the tourists who are probably its main audience now. Something like a Kate Hudson and Meghan Mullaney pairing with a Brandy.

"Messy White Gays" reviews

Dec 30, 2025 — 1:31:48 PM

And some real good money was spent on the production too. I yearn for the days of the Rudnick and McNally gay plays, and the Crabtree's revues. I could not wait for this to be over and was very appreciative of it's one act length. Saw Prince Faggot the same weekend, the other end of the spectrum. One may have been too smart while the other couldn't have been dumb.. Back to my first line in this post - who sank a boatload of cash into this?

Amazed the aggregators rated many of these reviews middling. Guessing they didn’t want to pile on but I am only counting three reviews that are not negative. Powerhouse International: Saturday Nov 8

Nov 4, 2025 — 12:31:23 PM

I have two tickets to this Saturday night's performance of Good Sex at 7:30 in Brooklyn with Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why) and SAG Award winner Chris Perfetti (Abbott Elementary) that I can't use. Hoping to find someone who is interested in the show and will attend, gratis. How do you have sex on stage? How do you even have sex?To try and find an answer, each night, two brand new performers tell a story of desire, betrayal and loneliness. They have never rehearsed together or read the script...

That was a crucial moment in showing Jackie's true character."I agree it’s crucial to Jackie’s real character, but this production either didn’t know what to do with it or was handcuffed in how it could respond. QOV could have been a brilliant tragedy, but as it stands, cutting that moment is the only way to give her final number a chance at working. I sat there befuddled t...

BAT BOY : The Musical at NYCC Encores!

Nov 4, 2025 — 11:13:36 AM

One of the major issues with the Encores production of Bat Boy mirrors the 2003 Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors which didn’t last a year and starred Kerry Butler who replaced the internet cancelled Alice Ripley before opening. In both cases a lot of what made the original Off Broadway shows electric, their audacity, their scrappy invention, their fearless camp, was lost once they were inflated to fit a larger stage.By enlarging the chorus, set, and orchestrations (which were largel...

Does anyone remember the national tour of the Broadway version of Chess? We went down to Delaware, which I think was the first stop of the tour, to see it. We remember it being superior to the Broadway version. Having seen the mishmash of the London version we were rooting for a fix way back then too. It was rewritten again for the tour, but I don't remember who did the book work. It was directed by Des McAnuff with choreography by Peter Anastos and Wayne Cilento. Carolee Carmello was Florence...

The narrator role was also played by Bryce Pinkham for the Actors Fund "concert" performance, and it was just as cringy and distancing as many are reporting. We left thinking, well maybe it was part of the shorthand they needed for the concert version. Something tells me we saw this version of the book at the benefit, and it wasn't abridged for the "concert." The one consistent element of the word of mouth so far is that they are singing their arses off and that effort alone is worth the pric...

Absolutely. The new book is not great. There's over-narration, groan-worthy political jokes referencing modern day, a wink wink at the audience after seemingly every number, and if any of this had been delivered by a lesser performer than Bryce Pinkham, it would have felt like an absolute slog. But he is so charismatic and charming...

It is interesting that basic look of the Chess set in their curtain call videos looks similar to the set of The Neil Diamond show A Beautiful Noise which is the set the Entertainmrnt Community Fund Chess benefit concert was staged on. This director and book writer were both involved in that December 2022 “concert”. I remember leaving thinking it felt like a full scripted Encores like staging and not an abridged concert. There is a post from someone who was there last night talking about how c...

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES with Kristin Chenoweth

Oct 6, 2025 — 10:38:57 AM

Looks like some major work has been done but is she also suggesting musical productions are sometimes too big to turn around completely? The show needed a lot of focus in Boston. It was trying to do many things and had a protagonist that should have been treated like Tony Soprano but they seem to not want to go that dark - and give the their leading lady the Kristin moment. It was very tuff to cheer on the leading character in her, I Will Survive, down in one, finale number. But...something v...

Twelth Night Lines?

Aug 20, 2025 — 2:44:58 PM

Yikes! We were lucky to win the on-line lottery yesterday. Interestingly while waiting for the house to open a security guard took an informal poll asking everyone how early, they got in line for tickets. Not one of the ten people ahead of us or behind us admitted to having to wait. Either someone else had given them tickets or they used the online lottery. He jokingly called us cheaters.
