Yesterday I heard from my best friend that a mutual friend of ours, Kelly Miller, was already cast as Stella for the NC production of Street Car...

But then today in the casting notices on Playbill it looks as if the part is still open? I'm so confused.

And yes, I purposely put Kelly's name there so that the people who think I'm just telling another "friend of a friend told me" rumor can eat it when casting is actually announced.

And yes I'll be mature enough to admit if there was some miscommunication and I was wrong...I just have to figure this out cause it doesn't make sense. Not that anyone cares but I'll update if I find out anything.

Is it possible Playbill made a mistake?

It often happens that even though a role is cast, the producers are still looking for standbys or understudies.

Phew! OK, that makes sense. Sorry, I lost my mind for a second. Kelly has been after this part for a LONG time and has worked her ass off for an opportunity like this.

I wish her luck. Obviously, I know nothing about this particular situation, but it's not at all unusual to see casting notices for roles that have already been cast -- even after the contracts have been signed -- since understudy auditions are often an ongoing process.

Thanks Margo!

It occurred to me after posting that someone who was planning on trying out for Stella may come across this thread and I apologize if I wasn't more sensitive to that possibility when chosing my words. There is obviously a reason why they are still announcing auditions and beyond that I'm not quite sure what else to add. At least you are armed with knowledge, and though it may not be what you want to know, knowledge is always a tool of power.
