Ashley Brown, who is currenlty playing Mary Poppins in the national tour, will play the title charcter in a concert version of the classic Disney film, "Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs." The concert will take place at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on October 20. She still loves being the Disney girl, which is nice. I bet she'll sound amazing singing those songs.

I just got tickets to the Mary Poppins tour for the 22nd.
Anybody know who Ashley's understudy is, just in case?

Coincedently, that day will be exactly four years when she made her Broadway debut as Belle. She played a Disney princess for the first time that day and she'll do the same this Tuesday.

"How is that ironic?"
She played a Disney Princess for the first time on that day four years ago and now she'll be playing another one for the first time four years later.

That's not irony. Irony would be if she played a Disney princess, married a prince, and became an actual princess. You're mistaking irony and happenstance. Or in this case, type casting.
Here are real uses of situational irony:

I'm not trying to be snide, but you're not using irony correctly.

Her understudies are Gail Bennett and Elizabeth Broadhurst. I saw Broadhurst as Mrs. Banks and she was great.

Posted: 10/15/09 at 8:22pmI saw Bennett go on for Mary on tour, after seeing Ashley Brown earlier that month, and Bennett is as good as, if not better than, Brown.

That wouldn't be irony either. That would be coincidence.
Irony would be her playing a villain but marrying a prince. Or her saying she never believed in fairytales coming true and she winds up playing a princess - or marry a real prince

Posted: 10/15/09 at 9:27pmIt's no big deal if I don't see Brown. I haven't heard anything spectacular about her, and understudies are always nice because they play the role much more freshly.

I really enjoyed her performance as Mary Poppins on Broadway. In addition to Poppins and Belle, don't forget that she also was in the tour of Disney's On the Record. I love her "A Change in Me" on the CD, she has a gorgeous voice.

Would it be "ironic" if Ashley married
Hal Prince?

Posted: 10/15/09 at 10:19pmIf you want a good example of Irony, take a look at the song Ironic. That song is ironic because situations like it raining on your wedding day or a first time flyer being on a flight that crashes are not situations of irony. They are just misfortunate or just suck. The song is ironic because for a song with that title it never actually lists anything that is irony, rather it just lists a bunch of events that would be a misfortune to have happen to someone.

Posted: 10/15/09 at 10:23pm^ What brilliance! It's ironic in that nothing in the song is actually ironic. Very clever of Alanis Morissette. I'm sure she totally intended it that way.

That's why I changed it to coincedently.

Or perhaps they'll cast her as Ariel in the new Little Mermaid tour?
