Attending the Tony Awards!
#1Attending the Tony Awards!
Posted: 5/30/14 at 10:26pmI won a contest through Playbill and Cadillac and they are sending me to the Tony Awards! It is black tie, so is a suit acceptable, or only tuxedos. Also, I know they have huge Tony programs they usually sell after for like $10-$20, do you get those for free (like a playbill) or is it more money (like a souvenir program). Also at the Tony Awards themselves is there a merch booth to buy a poster and t-shirt, or should I beforehand somewhere? Thanks, hope you can help!

Congratulations, gstrus2!!! I won a trip to the rehearsal and couldn't be more thrilled for you, too! It'll be a great weekend! Yes, I believe you do get a copy of the program for free as someone attending the ceremony. If you want Tony Awards merchandise, I'm not sure if they sell any at Radio City Music Hall but you can always go by the Tony Awards pop-up shop at the Paramount. Some people have given the store "meh" reviews but if you're like me and want something else like a shirt or keychain or something to remember the evening, they sell stuff like that there!
CONGRATS AGAIN!!

Posted: 5/31/14 at 5:08pmI'll be attending the Tony Awards for the first time. Some practical questions for anyone who has attended in the past. I know you can't take photos during the ceremony, but will I be allowed to have my camera in my purse (for photo taking before and after the show)? Also, I think I read that you must arrive by 7:00. Are you seat bound the entire time or during breaks can you get up and visit the bar (is there a bar on the upper mezz?), restroom, etc...? Thanks in advance for any responses!

Congratulations on the Win of the Playbill Contest. Good to know that someone wins these things.
As to some of the other questions on Here--
You can take photos before and after the show. I have, anyway.
Once the show starts--all bars are closed and as long as you are not on the main floor--you can get up whenever. The only drink option is the water fountains in Radio City.

Posted: 5/31/14 at 6:41pmOne of the best parts about being at the Tonys is getting to see what the TV audience doesn't see. They give/announce the "non-prime-time" awards between 7 and 8, and usually the presenters are name actors. One year when I attended it was Julie White and Michael Cerveris and they were hysterical! Also - some fun stuff goes on during the commercial breaks.
