Is there a strict dress code for the Tony Awards for men?
Does everyone that has a ticket walk the Red Carpet or is that just for VIP? Any info is appreciated.
I'm so excited!!!

I attended at Radio City the year The Producers swept the awards. While the majority wore tuxes and gowns, there were plenty of folks in suits and cocktail dresses.

And no, everyone with a ticket does not walk the red carpet, although if you are in tux/gown, plenty of folks will gawk to figure out if you are 'someone'.

The fact that this question needs to be asked saddens me deeply.

The reason why I'm asking is whether or not to rent a tux or pack a nice black suit. I'm leaning toward getting a tux. I have to decided if I should get it here in Ohio or coordinate to pick up in Manhattan.

A dark suit will be fine which you can always "jazz up" with a bright red tie and red patent leather shoes (although a dark tie and black shoes are perfectly acceptable).

Since you won't be doing any interviews but you obviously get that it's a formal occasion, I think you should wear what's going to make you feel most like a king.

You're treating yourself to the Tonys. Might as well treat yourself well in every aspect.

And don't forget the oversized sunglasses.

Me,too. After years of watching my fathers pre-show ritual of donning white tie and tails, another tiny bit of me dies every time I see someone coming to the theater in their finest Tommy Bahama beachwear. Attending the Tony Awards for the First Time

Enjoy!

But don't get your hopes up. There are two entrances to radio city, the red carpet and a side entrance. Even if you rent a stretch limo, they check who you are, and if you are not on the list, they shuttle you off to the bad entrance. They quickly usher you up to your seat, where you are not allowed to leave for four hours, so. Pee first. The big fun is you get to see what happens during the commercials, which is often more fun than what's going on onstage during the telecast.

To answer your question, a tux IS required.
