Have you ever felt like kicking the head of the audience member in front of you? Or maybe you wanted to do a little elbow action from the side?

When I went to see Hairspray, there was a man in front of me who would release this horrifyingly loud "awwww" everytime there was a fat reference. If you've seen Hairspray, then you KNOW how many damn fat jokes there are. This guy didn't miss a single one of them either, he just kept saying "Awwww" everytime. I was so tempted to just slap him across the back of his head.

Oooooh, just thought of another instance. When I saw one of the preview performances for Little Shop, this critic lady who sat next to me had this pen to lit up and gave off this huge flashlight-type beam so she could see when she wrote. I understand that critics have to take notes, but it was so annoying to see this bright light out of the corner of my eye.

I also tried to sneak some looks at her notes when she wasn't looking, to see how she treated my favorite person, Kerry Butler. Unfortunately, I couldn't read it without being noticeable. The critic was this hard-a$$ lady, but by the end she was smiling and laughing and giving the standing O.

also once when i saw bye bye birdie front row, this old lady that smelled like apple sauce kept coughing up a lung the whole time. UHHH

the other night at Wicked, i think it took this woman the entire 1st act to open 1 piece of candy...maybe if someone chokes (but doesnt die) it will teach them a lesson to eat candy during intermission..sorry to be rude but, im tired of idiots who have no respect and also pick the quiet scenes to be the loudest.

Yeah kids are obnoxious. At Little Shop, this little girl screamed at the top of her lungs when Audrey II first spoke "Feed Me!" It was complete silence, and all you hear is this quick screech of horror from the girl in the center orchestra. Even though it interrupted the show for about 2 minutes straight with on and off audience laughter, it was still funny. The audience would die down laughing, and then someone would start up again. I give my props to Hunter who remained frozen with a straight face for the entire, and I'm not lying, 2 minutes of laughter and applause. Updated On: 10/27/03 at 09:39 PM

Ugh, there should be a height limitation on the people are going to sit in row A-F or something! I hate tall people sitting in front of me. Send them to the back damnit!

---sorry tall people!

Went to see Rent several times and had people in front of me singing along to every song...definatly the most annoying audience members I've encountered. Also can't stand when people get these seats really close right in the middle of the row and then come late and leave early.

Amen to the height limit! Short people should get priority seating in the first 10 rows. There's nothing worse than paying $100 for a premium seat and then having someone with a giant head sit in front of you when you're 5 feet tall! Or at least give us booster seats!

I believe at LSOH they actually had an announcement before the show (along with the usual 'turn off your cellphones') asking people to open candy wrappers before the show started. I also think it should be mandatory for people to bring KLEENEX... nothing worse than sitting next to someone with a cold who sits there sniffling through an entire show...

How could you not sing along to RENT? I want to, but to be polite I sing in my head.

...this is why I refuse to see Rent. All the teeny-bopper people I know go to see that show and talk about it like they can relate, when they really can't. I have forever vowed to never see Rent. Mwuahaha! Gimme' Millie or Hairspray instead.

Will you stop when those sitting near you ask you to or will they have to summon the usher?

Hey us tall people like to sit close to! Get a buster seat or something it's not our fault you are height impaired lol j/k. But I don't not agree on the height thing I'm to tall to agree!

But my 2 worst experiences where the first time I saw Hairspray there was a women a few people down from singing a long to the songs!! Who does that! Well, I do but only for the last few lines of the show after bows when everyone is clapping so no one can hear that's not the same as sings along to all the songs!

The second was the first time I saw Little Shop there was a boy who was maybe 5 sitting behind me and he kept leaning over to his grandpa sitting next to him saying things like "He hit Adurey" or "That's Seymour" stuff like that like it was cute cause he was little and really into it but there are other people who want to watch the show to!

i hate it when people un-wrap candy, its the most annoying thing in the world to be watching a show and all of a sudden here someone un-wrapping their candy.
sitting behind someone who moves their head from side to side every second is so annoying. if you can't sit still don't come to the theatre.
another really annoying thing is when people start clapping before someone has finished the song.

They actually did the whole... NO CANDY WRAPPERS at a show and while they were telling people the anouncer opened a candy wrapper really loud in the microphone. It was a good laugh. I think it was Noises Off (the revivial they did)

I nearly felt like kicking my friend today, who was an audience member at Phantom yesterday.

Now I think that understudies are way underrated to begin with, so this really made me mad. She saw Sarah Lawrence as Christine instead of Lisa Vroman and said she didn't like her much...well, I could live with that, right? But then she whips out her Playbill, turns to the page with this cast listing, points to her name and goes: "Look, she's listed ALL THE WAY down here!" as if that explained everything. I was like, "And your point is...?" It's one thing if she didn't like her performance, but it really bugged me that the billing of her name should have anything to do with it. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Ok im sorry, but being such a huge RENT fan I have to say that you don't know what your missing! don't let enthusiastic fans make you not want to see a show! If anything, it should make you think, "hmm, all these people keep going to see this show and they sing along and talk about the music all the time...sounds pretty good, maybe I should check it out!"
Besides, people dont sing along at EVERY show =P
As for "teenyboppers" not relating, well, since Joey left I don;t think there are any real teenyboppers around the Neder...and if you've never see nthe show how do you know we DON'T relate? I think anyone can relate to a message of freindship and love...but then again I may be biased =)
Stepping down from my soapbox now!

I love how the announcer at Hairspray and how he says "We will be travailing back to the 1960s and since this was a time before cellphones and other electronically devices.." I don't know it exactly but it's funny!

When I saw Gypsy, there was this girl in front of me who's frizzy head blocked my entire view, AND she knew the ENTIRE overture, and she was bopping her head to the music, back and forth, front and back, and laughing obnoxiously at parts that weren't funny at all.
Also, when I saw Rent (yes, again) yesterday, this girl next to me was doing the hand motions to 'La Vie Boheme' and bopping around to the music.

Took the kids to see a saturday matinee of Phantom a week or so ago. (They behaved!).

We sat right in front of a group of people with southern accents. Before the show started, they talked (loudly) about someone they knew in the show. I was thinking to myself, oh great, loud southern tourists, a-hootin' and a-hollerin' every time their hometown friend appears on the stage. This is going to be terrible.

And then the show starts and ... SILENCE. The group didn't make a peep! Once act one ended, they started up again. blah blah blah and yakkity yak. And once the entracte began, total silence again!

I was really ashamed of myself for assuming that they were going to talk during the show. If you folks are reading this, I apologize! And that home town friend of yours was terrific.

I think cell phone users who allow their phones to ring during performances need to be kicked around. Answering the phone should be punishable by death.

I also can't stand the women who bathe themselves in overpowering cheap perfume. Remebers ladies, the point of the scent is that it so subtle taht it should draw someone closer to you in order to smell it...not repel them.

At a performance of Fosse a while back, I got into an intermission fight with a family who felt it was ok to talk through most of act 1 because, as they explained when I confronted them, "It was just music, there wasn't nobody talkin on the stage so what you need to listen to?"

The argument with them got so out of hand because they became defiant and threatened to talk as much as they wanted through act 2 that the house manager had to assign an usher to stand in the aisle near them and shush them everytime they opened their mouths.
