I have a friend who recently lost his vision, so I'd like to be able to give him a gift I know he'd LOVE. Audioplays. I'm sure they don't even exist...probably just Shakespeare. Anyone know if there are others, such as Williams?
Sorry to hear about your friend, but that's a lovely gift!
Yes, there are lots. Really, just type your or your friend's favorite play into an Amazon search window and then refine to CD (or cassette).
For example, here's an abridge (sorry) "Streetcar" with Rosemary Harris.

I know there's one of The Odd Couple with Nathan Lane. That's the only one I'm really familiar with.
Google LA Theater Works. They have an entire line of plays on CD for sale. That's where you'll find the Nathan Lane ODD COUPLE as well as a LOT of others from classics to semi-recent plays. They are produced quite well and they are the full versions of the plays and have some amazing casts. They only one I've heard is the aforementioned ODD COUPLE and the company's version of FALSETTOS (which is unfortunately not avaiable to buy). Good luck!
You can also find a lot of the british radio plays. I have a ton of those that I listen to at the gym or while walking. But the Theatreworks cd's are fantastic, too. If you live in NYC, you can check out most of them at the Lincoln Center library on the 3rd floor.
There's also one of The History Boys that I've always wanted to hear, but I've never been able to track down. I think it's out of print.
There's an amazing vinyl recording of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, the original Broadway cast. As far as I know, it's never been re-released, but surely there are ways to hear it online.
