A big thanks to MasterLcZ, who in his post on Jeff Blumenkrantz, pointed me to the NPR website and their webcast of Audra McDonald's "Seven Deadly Sins" concert at Zankel Hall. What a treat to hear this entire concert!
As a special treat, Audra's final selection in the second hour is "Light in the Piazza". Heaven. Pure and simple.
Give yourself a treat and take a listen.

what program are you using to listen to this? because it doesn't work with my windows media player.
Is this downloadable? I'm at work so I can't try it. I want it on my ipod.
I was just gonna ask! If anyone knows how to save it onto their cpt, pleaseee PM me!
Darcy - It's working for me on Real Player.
Bobby - I don't think you can download the file as it is a feed from the NPR website. If someone know better than I about such things... please chime in.
I think there's a way to do it, but I think you have to have some kind of fancy software or something.

Thank you - Listening to this is exactly what I needed today.
God bless Audra McDonald for putting that beautiful instrument to use in showcasing the amazing work of so many talented composers!
I heard this a while ago and was hoping it would be released on CD, but, alas, no.
I have a question, though. Why is Lucas listed with Guettel when Guettel is the composer and lyricist?
I prefer Kelli's version.
Sueleen - it's just an error. They happen. This concert was last year while she was doing "Raisin" and before "Piazza" even debuted. The announcer also calls Jeff Blumenkrantz "Jake Blumenthal". Clearly the NPR fact-checkers are not all that with it.
It should also be noted that the songlist is not quite accurate. Almost all of the songs in the second hour until "Unexpressed" are taken from recordings and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is actually "Mr. Snow".
That makes sense, I just wondered if maybe at some time in the Piazza process Lucas may have been considered a co-lyricist.
Lucas was never a co-lyricist, although he was not always attached as the book writer. John Guare was originally attached to the project when Guettel first started working on it as part of the composer in residence program at Chicago Lyric Opera. Guettel had a hard time with the time constraints involved with an opera company commission and dropped out of the program, leaving "Piazza" to languish (in the back of a drawer as he noted in his acceptance speech) until Lucas came aboard.

The seven deadly sins is amazing....some of my favourite Audra material!
XXXx
I think it safe to assume that if Audra picked up the yellow pages of New York City and started singing it, we would all listen. Am I right???
If you have or had the opportunity to see her perform live you know that she breath taking and enraptures every essence of the notes and lyrics she sings.
I love this program. I have "I Eat" and I can't wait until Jeff Blumenkrantz's songbook comes out so I can sing "My Book". I'm excited for her Light In The Piazza
This has been online for a year now. But it is still way wonderful.
I have been wanting to hear the "Seven Deadly Sins" for such a long time now. And man do I like them.
