personally, it bothers me when asians fake an "accent". It's like watching Mickey Rooney in "Breakfast at Tiffany's". Mayumi Ando, an ensemble member in Rent, says she hates it when she goes to auditions and they ask her to do her "accent".
I wonder how Ann Harada feels about having to fake an accent? As an Asian myself, I would hate it. I think the Asian accent should be done very "tongue-in-cheek", but still makes me cringe when I hear it...it just furthers the stereotype that Asians in America are all "foreign".
I think the whole point of Ave Q, and specifically Christmas Eve, is to parody and push the edge on what we deem offensive...She's the token "racial minority" of Ave Q, sort of how Sesame St. has the token Black Guy or the token Deaf Girl...It's all meant in fun, and if you get offended, then I guess Ave Q's point has been achieved. To give Ave Q credit, Christmas Eve has the highest education of any of the other characters in the show, and perhaps what they are saying is that broken english does not a stupid person make...And I'm sure I'll get stoned, but some Asians have broken english and sound ecactly like Christmas Eve...

Well, my favorite, hands down, is "It's a Fine Fine Line".
However, other close favorites include:
1. "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist"
2. "Schenefreude" (spelling"
3. "For Now"

Like a good number of you I love all of the songs. However, my favorite is "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist." It is well written, funny, a bit offensive (a plus in my book.), and above all, it's true!

I must say that I too love "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" It puts me in such a great mood when I listen to it...but I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. Hmmm that's something to think about
Anyways, I also love "Schadenfreude" and "It Sucks to be me" because sometimes you can relate to that song completely. It's so hard to pick though, I love the entire CD

Mint- the difference here is that the show is aware of the stereotypes it's using, and mocks them from the start.
"Tried to work in Korean deli/ But I am Japanese."
I always thought that was a poke at the "all Asians look alike" stereotype. And of course, her little bit in "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist" should be self-explanatory.
Most of my friends in high school were Asian, and the person with whom I first saw Avenue Q was Korean, the child of heavily-accented immigrants. She loved Christmas Eve, so take that as you will.
Are people offended that Rod's favorite book is Broadway Musicals of the 1940's?
All of them, although I'm partial to "The Internet is for Porn"

This is tough but, Everyones A Little Bit Racist is my favorite closely followed by:
Schadenfraude
You Can Be As Loud As The Hell You Want
Sucks To Be Me
For Now
Internet Is For Porn
I love them all.
though my favorites are probably :
Sucks to be me
I'm not wearing underwear today (a DRASTICALLY) unappreciated song
Internet is for porn
What do you do with a BA in English?
The music from this show is GREAT!
My best-friend's mother is very good friends with Rick Lyon so I got to meet him, years ago (befire Q.) and he is quite nice.
I love all of the songs but the one that cracks me up is 'Internet"" because it is so brutally honest.
I taught my friends at school "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist." It's pretty hystarical, because my black friend, my asian friend, and I (being white) sing it together... It's some good times.

I looove Fine Fine Line! But my favorite is probably The Money Song. The part where Nicky keeps saying "I can't I need it I'm homeless" and Princeton hits him and Nicky gives him the money always cracks me up!

hmmm...my favorite song from Avenue Q. It Sucks to Be Me was the first song I heard from Ave. Q, so it holds a special place in my heart. But you gotta love Everyones a Little Bit Racist, just because it's so truthful. And also There's a Fine, Fine Line and The More You Ruv Someone, because everyone has had a love/hate relationship. But finally, my favorite song from Avenue Q is....SCHADENFREUDE! Why? I have no idea...
I think I have a secret crush on Gary Coleman...
I guess the ones I'm more keen on listening to would be "Purpose", "Fantasies Come True", "There's a Fine, Fine Line", "I Wish I Could Go Back to College", "The Money Song", "For Now". Might as well name off the entire score.
I like
Fine, Fine Line
Sucks To Be Me
and
The More You Ruv Someone

i LOVE this show, and seeing it in person was a real treat. my fave songs are "RACIST" and "PORN" because there's so much truth to them. the only song i DON'T like is "SCHADENFREUDE." there is truth to it too, but i personally don't think the misery of others is funny. (i've never understood why people watch those home video tv shows, because most of what they show is people having accidents and getting hurt. just not funny to me.)
