The song was added for Toni Braxton.
You can hear original Belle, Susan Egan, sing the song on one of her CDs.

Let me just say one thing about this song...
Its a great song, like one of the best that were added to the show, but a lot of Belles are great at everything else in the show but really struggle on this. (*cough* Chritsy Carlson Romano *cough*)
Sarah Uriarte Berry was amazing at this song.

It's placed in Act II, after Belle leaves the castle, before Gaston leads the charge back to the castle.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 11:16pmWell, it actually can hurt, depends on who's singing it. Believe me - when it hurts, it HURTS!

Besides Susan Egan's personal CD the only Belle to officially record "A Change In Me" for release is Ashley Brown.

^Ditto...I played Babette.
This is one of the few songs I can still stand after having been in the show.

Posted: 1/5/07 at 1:18amso random... how is that they ended up recording the original versions of HOME and IF I CAN'T LOVE HER Reprise on the OBC Recording, but then changed it again in the show... not to say that's bad... but i would have thought that that stuff would have already been kinked out by the time a CD is recorded... i'm just nitpicky like that...

I think the OCR was one of those recorded-after-out-of-town-tryouts dealies which is great for CD sales and promotion, but results in an inaccurate preservation of the score that ends up opening on Broadway.
When I was doing the show regionally, the first thing I was told by the director (who was involved in the OBC) was to throw away the Bway recording and wash my ears out, and start listening to the London recording, which has the final lyrics, and much more complete dance music. Whoever the Beast is on it is unbearable, but it was incredibly helpful to be able to put on a recording that actually had the same music and lyrics as the show I was rehearsing. It doesn't have "A Change in Me," but I wasn't really concerned with the ballads.

Posted: 1/5/07 at 10:34amThe B&B recording was recorded before the show even played one performance Broadway. You could even purchase a copy of the CD and then cassette on the very first night of previews.

Posted: 1/5/07 at 11:55amI love On The Record with a passion. I had hoped Disney would put rights out through MTI or something. Maybe they still will, but no one knows what it is. Ashley Brown is by far my favorite Belle ever. I knew and loved her before B&B, but it definitely added to it. Her "Change in Me" is phenomenal.

Well, it's a little unfair to say that CCR sucked only on "A Change in Me." Her "Home" wasn't that much better.
I like Ashley's verson, don't get me wrong, but the second time through she belts just a little bit too loudly for me. It's like she's yelling (only in a very healthy manner.)
It's a good song, but the lyrics sort of bother me, like her singing "My perfect world out there"... didn't she used to complain about the town? Or is she referring to her chance for adventure? Because, I don't know, being locked in an enchanted castle sounds a lot like an adventure to me.
