I like both endings.
So "A Change in Me" was added later on? I saw a highschool producation of BatB and this song was not listed in the program, so I assumed they cut it out and was disappointed. But then it was indeed in the show (and Belle belted out the end). The song is not on the OBCR either.
No, A Change in Me was added when Toni Braxton joined the cast to give her another song, although it's certainly arguable that she sung it the worst out of all the subsequent Belles. It's included in the licensing edition, but I think it's fairly easy to get permission to cut it if you don't want to do it.

I believe "A Change in Me" was added when Toni Braxton joined the cast as Belle. And the ending was permanently changed when Ashley Brown assumed the role.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Lull89 beat me to it! =]
"A Change in Me" was added for Toni Braxton in September of 1998. All the English language cast recordings - Broadway, Australian and London were made before then which is why the song is not included on any of them.
Cool, thanks everyone for the info.
And the ending was permanently changed when Ashley Brown assumed the role.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
There's a youtube video of Ashley Brown singing the original version during her stint as Belle, so I'm not sure that it was changed for her.

It was changed for Ashley Brown because in numberous interviews she mentioned how thrilled she was that they changed it for her. She started with BATB in September but the new version wasn't put in the show until that December so maybe the performance was before December.

broadwayboy522 - Yeah, I remember seeing some of those interviews.
I saw the show at the very end of December when Ashley was in it, and the song had the belting ending.
"Plus, Anneliese van der Pole was the only Belle to sing the alternate version on Broadway. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think up until then they used the original version."
They changed it for Ashley Brown (as already said above), but it was later in her run / not right away. I know DEBORAH LEW did the new ending as well, who was before Annalese, but not sure about everyone else.
Also: Does anyone have a link for that Au Reviour BatB that Broadwayworld did? I remember they had a compliation of the Belle's doing "Home" and "A Change in Me" ... I remember watching it wondering why everyone was so thrilled with van der Pol's voice, as she did most of the big endings...!

The Belle's that did the new ending were Ashley Brown, Sarah Litzsinger, Sarah Uriarte Berry, Deborah Lew, and Anneliese van der Pol. Both Sarah's returned to role between Ashley and Deborah so they did the new ending then, not their original run
Here you go philly...

THanks CATS!!
I still don't see why people think van der Pol is such a strong singer...she sounds fine/good until she belts. Then it sort of ruins it for me.
I think Christy Carlson Romano sounds better in the BWW clip than she does on the youtube clips. You have to hear her say "You monster!" during "Home" if you haven't already. It's hysterical. Updated On: 7/2/09 at 08:07 PM
Christy sounds like a strangled cat. She can't go high at all, you can hear her & it ends up being horrible.
