This is ridiculous. Why is everyone humoring this guy?
The cartoon Belle is depicted as a brunette caucasian female. That is why they typically cast white women. Sure they can colorblind cast. Just as in Les Mis with Norm Lewis. There is nothing wrong with either choice.

Posted: 1/9/07 at 4:46pmOk .. well what about the roles of Benny and Joanne in RENT. Those roles are also "NON RACE SPECIFIC," but they are rarely played by anyone who isn't African American. Is this a problem as well?

OF COURSE THATS NOT A PROBLEM CONSIDERING THE HUGE AMOUNT OF WORK THERE IS FOR A WHITE ACTOR ON BROADWAY. AND U KNOW THAT WHITES WORK FAR MORE ON BROADWAY THAN BLACKS. UNDENIABLE.
OF COURSE ITS NOT. ITS AT BEST DESERVING!

Ok .. I'm done. Disney is not racist for casting a traditionally white character with a white actress. Sure the role doesn't call for a white woman, but that is how the Disney staff envisioned her. If the cartoon was drawn purple and Disney only cast white women .. yeah, that would be a problem. If your argument is that there isn't enough roles for African Americans on Broadway, you should find a better show than Beauty and the Beast as a vehicle for your argument. Thanks!
