The nudity isn't gratuitous. It introduces our heroine to us in her most vulnerable state.

You're using that term completely incorrectly. "

Anyone who's seen the play knows exactly what Dave means: they threw in everything but the kitchen sink. And anyone who hasn't can tell from the comments in this thread that he means just that, and that this is anything but a kitchen drink drama.
I am grateful for Dave's insightful posts. He is one of the most articulate posters here.

For someone who's the most pedantic stick in the mud on this board (who wouldn't even write the name of a play because, in your opinion, it wasn't spelled correctly), you certainly pick and choose. Your consistency, like your opinions, stinks.
"Everything but the kitchen sink" and a "kitchen sink drama" are not one and the same. Accurate usage is a beautiful thing.

Learn it, then.
I doubt After Eight knows what kitchen sink drama is. His idea of theater history is FORTY CARATS.
So I saw it last night and it was a near-miss for me. Landau was obviously given a large budget for this and I can't help but wonder if the play would have been better served by something slightly less pricey. The play is lop-sided to be sure, but if the cast were not quite so uneven it might have gone down more smoothly. The three sisters at the center of the story are played with a lot of EMPTY, PUSHY DECLAIMING!!!! making much of the drama of the story muted. Bobby Steggert and Christopher Innvar fared the best out of the cast.

Full-frontal.
Nudity does not have to be sexual, you know. Nudity can mean a whole lot more in a piece of art.

How long is the show running these days? Is it possible for me to see an 8pm performance on a Saturday night and then make it to Hedwig at 10pm?

^ No, I wouldn't think so. It was closer to two hours than 90 minutes. Also, Signature is really far west.
I'm confused as to how something is nearly two hours if the posted running time is 90 minutes. That's a huge gap of time difference. Thanks for that info, but is that indeed correct?
Has anyone successfully accomplished the 8pm Big Love and 10pm Hedwig? Curious about this. Wonderfulwizard or Stew123 did either of you attempt this? Please report back if you did!

Um, because I saw the show and I'm telling you it's two hours?
I didn't end up doing it because I heard it was closer to two hours and didn't want to risk missing Hedwig- though in retrospect I should have gone, since my Hedwig tickets were for the cancelled show! But yeah, it doesn't seem like it would be possible.
Signature is really far west, too, whereas the Belasco is one of the easternmost theaters. I would really hate to rush from one to the other!

It ran one hour and forty-five minutes tonight.
I thought the nudity was a little unnecessary. I mean, I could debate it forever, but, the character didn't seem so sure of herself, so why have her stand there naked as if she was super confident?
