#52Big River Tour Photo and Gala event info.
Posted: 12/20/04 at 6:17pm

Currently the national touring company of Big River is on holiday break but I got more photo of Cleveland run on my fan site. They have been collecting donation for Broadway Care and some of them graciously posed in the lobby in their costume. Darren Frazier went in as an understudy of Pap/Duke/Silas at the end of the run. He is so cute and nice!

Also, please check out the Deaf West Theatre's Gala event info. on the information page. The event will be held on January 20th, 2005 in L.A. and unless you are near L.A. it would be hard for you to attend such fav event (the host will be West Wing's Marlee Matlin and Bradley Whitford), but if you'd like to support DWT, you can certainly send your donation. Since the producer of DWT is Bill O'Brien (one of the nicest people on Earth) who was a recurring guest star in West Wing, I assume many West Wing cast would be at the event (perhaps Kristin too?!). One of the host committee is John Spencer (Leo), and Angela Lansbury is also one of them! If you want to make a contribution or need more info. please contact DWT @ info@deafwest.org.

#54Break a leg, guys!
Posted: 1/5/05 at 11:55pm

Big River national tour resumes tonight at Tucson. Apparently this venue is at U of A, and the web page for UAPresent has some bug so you cannot see the video clip on the site Break a leg, guys! Also, there's another bug on the on-line ticket services, so if you want to buy a ticket, the best way is to call up the box office.

I thought it's kinda funny to start on Wed. night but boy, they'll have Thurs. matinee AND two shows on Sat. and Sun. Talk about a hard schedule.

I heard Adam Monley went as MT, break a leg Adam!

Though I've never seen Big River and I haven't heard the songs I do admire it because of the fact that it is bringing some much earned aclaim to the deaf community. My best friend is deaf and i hate to see it when she and her friends suffer from audist people and I'm so glad that Big River and Deaf West does what it does because it really sends a good word across the seemingly growing border between the deaf and hearing communities. Some people have believed that because a person is deaf they cant amount to anything specail but amazing shows and organizations like this prove that is utterly fictionous. I'm very active in Deaf rights and I've seen some Deaf West performances (including C.J. a deaf comedian) and I have never been less then amazed. I'm just very appreciative to things like that because I feel that it will help hearing people make better judgments towards the deaf community and we will start to merge more and become a little less judgemental.

I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart. -Scrubs

Hi Dreamcatcher, you are in LA, correct? PLEEEEEEEEEASE take your friend(s) and see this production. Also visit my site (shameless plug) as I have two deaf actors' interview in it, and the third one is on its way. Also, there are some video clips of the shows on the site so that you can preview what to expect. It's just an amazing theatre experience that you don't want to miss!

OMG, I saw it on the preview night and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The audience went wild after "How Blest We Are," and I was so glad to be in that theatre at that moment.

The show is so solid, I couldn't stop smiling from the beginning. Of course, Dan Jenkins was beyond fantastic, and every time I see Ty perfoms Huck, I cannot get over with his talent. Michael was top knotch too. I LOVE this show and company!!!

I hope many people can see this show, with or without Dan.

We had tickets in the 7th row center for this evening, but couldn't go because my partner got sick. I was somewhat devastated, as I REALLY wanted to see this show! I'm going to try to exchange the unused tickets, but I'm not holding out much hope.

Thank you lite2shine for contributing to this thread. Because of your postings, I made up my mind to see Big River (got my 1/2 price ticket at Gold Star), and I'm so glad I did. I just got back from seeing it tonight and it was an amazing and quite moving experience. I've seen hundreds of musicals and I've never seen anything quite like this Big River. The signing was almost choreographic; it added so much to the performances. The melding of singing actors and signing actors was seamless. And what a talented cast! I'm quite entranced by the adorably charismatic and oh so talented Tyrone Giordano and the rest of the cast was sensational as well. If you L.A. people miss this show (it's only running another ten days) you will regret it! Updated On: 1/15/05 at 02:37 AM

eslgr8, Thank you, thank you, thank you! for seeing the show. And I'm so glad to hear that you enjoy the show.

Ditto! Especially there are $35 tickets available! Say hello to Dan from me when you go. The cast are so friendly and would love to hear from you after the show. Go to the stagedoor! Big River in Los Angeles

I just posted a new thread (Brilliant Signs) with the my brief review of the DeafWest production of Big River...then I saw this thread. Was hoping I would be able to see thoughts of others who saw this incredibly moving production. If you have an opportunity to see it on tour DEFINITELY go!!

Big River tour has moved on to Sacramento stop, where the Governor Arnold supposedly came to see (unconfirmed rumor) the other night. (edit: this rumor was untrue. this show contains a gunshot and Gov'nor won't show up to a place where there's a possible gunshot)

There are a few cast changes: Daniel Jenkins officially left the tour, so Adam Monley took over Mark Twain/Huck's voice role, and to fill Adam's roles, Michael Flanigan joined the company. Congratulations, Adam! Welcome to the river, Michael!

From the distance, Adam's MT strikingly resembles Dan's MT, but the voice is different, less twangy and less Southern accent. He has a clear beautiful voice. He plays multiple instruments (minus mandolin) like Dan did too.

I feel so lucky to see this inspiring show in my town!

Delaware run started today and runs until Feb. 27th. There have been a few cast changes since the tour left Sacramento: Michael McElroy will perform in the 2nd company in D.C. from mid March; therefore, he left the tour company. The role of Jim is now performed by Jerold E. Solomon. Ty Giordano will be appearing a movie with Diane Keaton (as her son) and to prepare for the role, he left the tour (sob). The role of Huck is now performed by Garrett Zuercher, consequently the roles Garrett has been performing are covered by the u/s (Stanley Bahorek and Darren Frazier).

I have uploaded a few photo I took at the stagedoor in "fan photos" section. Adorable Rod Keller and Benjamin Scheredar and good looking Adam Monely. I love those guys *grin*

Shameless Plug time again!

I uploaded some of the stagedoor photo on my fan site. I've asked Darren Frazier (swing, soon to be Pap in DC company) who is a talented photographer to share his photo that he's taken on the road. I've seen them and they are out of this world (rare, funny, beautiful, etc.). As soon as he forward them to me, I'll upload so that you can enjoy too.

Ryan Schlecht, who performs multiple roles in Big River, has participated the Q&A session in my site. He was the finalist for Huck and competed against Ty, so reading his insight is very interesting.

Enjoy!

I just got my tickets to the DC production, on Monday, the day they went on sale to the general public, I got okay tickets, buy one get one free (it's good to be under eighteen), front row of the "dress circle" (basically the balcony).

What is going on with the DC production? Is it a totally different cast or will some be the same? I'm so excited to see the show.

edit - my tickets came in the mail today!!! Updated On: 2/24/05 at 11:04 AM

I'm jealous, buy one get one free?! Good for you!

You are blessed, broadway geek, as Michael McElroy will be Jim and he was nominated for Tony Best Supporting Actor for big River last year and has been on the tour until early Feb.. Two other actors from the tour join (Darren (Pap) and Stanley (Tom)) the DC company but the rest of them are either new cast or from the Broadway cast. The direction is the same, just the cast are different from the tour and/or Broadway cast. You will enjoy the show nevertheless! I hope to hear your report.

Did you watch Sesame Street at all in the 70s and 80s? Linda Bové is in this cast. :)

Just in case you don't know, Bill O'Brien who will play Mark Twain/Huck's Voice originated the role in Deaf West Theatre, and is a guest star on West Wing (as Kenny, ASL interpreter). He is a fantastic actor and I can't wait to see his MT :)
