setting: The Broadway.com Executive Room
EXECUTIVE #1: Okay. The economy is in a downward spiral, and people aren't as willing to spend their money on the theater. And we are commercial whores, all of us, agreed?
EXECUTIVES: Agreed.
EXECUTIVE #1: So what can we do to get people excited about Broadway, and get them to buy tickets?
EXECUTIVE #2: Well, we need to get the word out that there are, in fact, shows coming this Spring.
EXECUTIVE #1: Good, and what else?
EXECUTIVE #3: We could do video features on each show!
EXECUTIVE #4: And get stars from the shows to talk things up, and get people excited!
EXECUTIVE #3: I think Michael Cerveris is available for HEDDA!
EXECUTIVE #1: YES! That's fantastic, every-
EXECUTIVE #3'S COUSIN: NINETEEN-TWENTIES!!!!
EXECUTIVE #1: Yes, you in the back?
EXECUTIVE #3'S COUSIN: MAKE VIDEOS IN STYLE OF NINETEEN-TWENTIES!!! NEWSREELS! CRACKLES!!! FUNNY HONKY-TONK NARRATION!!!!
EXECUTIVE #3: Where did you learn the word "honky-tonk?"
EXECUTIVE #1: Well...
EXECUTIVE #3: MIDDLEBROW AMERICA!!!
EXECUTIVE #1: Right, let's get on it, everyone!

Hahahaha, thanks for that, bustopher.
These should be interesting though if they're going to do it as a series...let's hope they at least follow through on it. Anyone else remember that series that was supposed to air about Laura Bell Bundy moving to New York and her apartment being redone and all?
And I know there have been more that they have announced and then just have been forgotten.

What an annoying video! I couldn't even make it through...
Once again, Broadway.com trying to act like their isn't any crisis as to not let sales dip. First, no report of any shows closing. Now, a BROADWAY IS HOTTER THAN EVER video...
It's so sad how Broadway.com went from a news, gossip, and featured-oriented site into an advertising site intended only to sell tix. I know that has its place and is necessary, but it has completely lost its relevance in my world.

Why would they want to be all "doom and gloom" about it? You see a dying dog on the side of the road, you don't say "Oh, that's sooooo cute!" They're just trying to make the best of a crap situation.
On the flipside, the video IS rather annoying.

Posted: 1/17/09 at 2:55pmI've always said I would watch Michael Cerveris read the phone book, and this video proves it. Dumb idea, great guy (and obviously a good sport, if he knew that's what the result would look like).
