bobbybaby85, some it may very well sound the same, but most if it doesn't.
ljay, I've just been told it'll be a "small band." They used the term "chamber piece" repeatedly at the preview presentation.

My educated guess, based on the amount of space at the Lortel and assuming they are not going to want to fill their upstage crossover with the band, would be something similar to a piano/synth, drum kit, electric guitar, and electric bass.
AEA, I would guess that's correct. In which case, the use of the word "orchestrations" is a bit grandiose.
When writing for a band, we usually use the word "arrangement."
Well Stafrord Arima says orchestrations, but what does he know

When did i say i heard how different the music sounds?

I'm the one who said how different the music sounds, bobbybaby, and I'm not involved with the production either, though I know several people who are. I've just seen several incarnations of it since it came back to fruition (the first reading of this version in 2009, a lab that showcased many of the changes at MCC last year, and the public "preview" presentation they held in August,) which is how I'm aware of what's so different.
The song list from that initial reading should be relatively intact, if you want a sense of what's there going into January 31. The labs have been more to work on book changes and staging ideas. They're pretty happy with how they've re-crafted the score, though I expect they'll continue making changes diligently in previews.

You mean "Stafford?" Well, he's the director, not the musical director or arranger, so I don't really know what he knows about the difference between orchestrations and arrangements. There are a lot of directors out there with exceptionally limited musical vocabularies. He may well be one of them; particularly if he calls a 4-5 piece arrangement an "orchestration."
One more week until Off- Broadway performances begin!
I will be there Tuesday night! Anyone else?

Barbara Cook as the original musical's Margaret White had blonde hair.
