Thanks, Enjolras. Saved me the trouble.
But then, why did I bother to write this post?

Bumped to reflect the posting of results for Round 1, games 31 and 32.
As these were the final two games of the first round, I also included a brief report about that round.

Bumped to reflect the posting of results for Round 2, games 5 and 6.
Also, I'd like to note that Enjolras found a site that would allow the tournament to be shown in bracket form. That way, you can see what matchups may be lurking in the future. Of course, if you'd rather be surprised, then you'd better not follow this link:

Big thanks to Enjolras for doing this.

Bumped to reflect the posting of results for Round 2, games 9 and 10:
Game 9: Rent defeated Big, 81-5.
Game 10: Ragtime defeated The Secret Garden, 80-23.
As has been noted, there really isn't any good reason for me to bump each individual game thread to announce its results. (I had thought that people might want to comment on the results, but I think that's happened maybe twice.) Accordingly, I will only show results and scores here.
(Well, I will edit the individual game threads to announce that balloting is closed, but I won't bump them.)

Well, I don't like to publicize upcoming matchups, but I guess that bell can't be unrung now.
I think that between-the-benches seats for that one are selling for $1500 at StubHub.

That region is definitely the toughest with the top four seeds all advancing to the Sweet 16. #1 Rent, #2 Crazy for You, #3 Kiss of the Spiderwoman, and #4 Ragtime.
..and speaking of Cinderellas, there are two #11 seeds (Parade and Side Show) and a #10 seed (Putting it Together) in the Sweet 16 - and two of the three could make it into the Elite Eight! George Mason anyone?

As those were the last two games of the second round, the initial post now also includes an almost-brief report on that round.

"The only composers with more than one show remaining in the tournament are Stephen Sondheim (Passion and Putting It Together) and Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde and The Scarlet Pimpernel). "
Also, the only director with more than one show remaining in the tournament is Robert Longbottom, who directed and choreographed Side Show AND Scarlet Pimpernel (as a replacement for Peter Hunt).
And the only director/ librettist with more than one show remaining in the tournament is James Lapine, who directed and co- wrote the books for Falsettos and Passion.

Slimandslam,
thanks for doing this. It's really nice that you're taking so much time to initiate this tournament.

Slim, I definitely agree with Scary. I think what you are doing is a brilliant idea. Thanks for all the effort you're putting in.
On a side note: In my opinion, I believe that Games 4-8 in Round Three are gonna be tight races.
Rent v. Ragtime
Crazy For You v. Kiss Of The Spider Woman
Passion v. Tommy
Falsettos v. Jekyll & Hyde
But then again I figure that they will be harder to choose in the future rounds. Can't wait to see the results.

I predict Rent, Spider Woman, Passion, and Falsettos.
slimandslam, I'd also like to thank you. I think the whole thing is really fun, and I'm glad you're doing it.

Bumped to reflect the posting of results for Round 3, games 1 and 2:
Game 1: Beauty and the Beast defeated The Scarelt Pimpernel, 59-20.
Game 2: Side Show defeated Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk, 51-9.
As always, thanks for the kind words.
Apologies for posting late tonight. I was stuck in traffic.
Anticipatory apologies for tomorrow (Thursday) night, when I won't be posting at all. I'll be out of town and probably won't have internet access, so I'll be posting no new games until Friday. All four of the games currently in progress will have their results posted Friday night (though the deadline for voting on games 3 and 4 will still be Thursday night).
Got that?

Posted: 3/27/08 at 5:34pmOkay, so this is going to sound incredibly stupid, but I don't follow sports and I already tried google and wikipedia and I still don't get it...but what are seeds? Once again, please pardon my ignorance.

seeds are ratings which each of the 64 teams are given by the NCAA. The brackets are divided into 4 categories/regions, giving 16 slots to each region. Let's remember in the bracket each region's 16 teams all battle a chance to play in the final 4, where they meet teams from the other regions.
They then take the top four teams, seed them as a #1 team and send them to a different region. Now each of these 4 teams are the #1 seed in their respective region. I don't know the exact method of choosing the rest of the seeds, but it essentially makes the next 4 best teams the #2 seed, the next best teams the #3, etc.
The #1 seed is put up against the #16 seed in that region. #2 against #15, # 3 against #14, etc. Then it makes it's way to #8 against #9. Thus in essence, each of the #1 teams can make their way to the final 4 to play the other #1 teams. But: The winner of the (1vs16) game faces the (8vs9) winner. Sometimes the #1 seed will get knocked off, or ocasionally a #15 team gets knocked off by a # 2 seed, making it such madness.
For this bracket, slimandslam put the 4 performances with the longest runs as #1 seeds. and it all falls out like i just said for the sports. MARCH F*CKING MADNESS.
slimandslam, this is awsome, i'm so glad you made this, and I look foreward to it next year. Don't disappoint. I was searching for some themes for next year, and on ibdb.com it was so hard to find a category with a number close to 64. the 90s was a nice one. Bravo to you.
