BWW TV First Look: NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT Cast Performs in Rehearsal!

I'm not going to continue going back and forth with you. The strength of O'Hara's belting has been debated ad nauseam on this board (go back to any thread about THE PAJAMA GAME during that season for particularly lengthy discussion on the topic.)

I know she's said time and time again that she would like to develop the brassier range of her voice, but I have seen her in numerous shows and numerous concerts and never once heard her produce a sound remotely close to a strong belt. Has she perfected her ability to utilize a strong mix? You're damn right she has- it's the only way she's been able to venture outside of the more legit sound that's been her bread and butter, but it begins and ends there. And again, this is coming from someone who really enjoys her when she's well cast. Having seen the reading of the show, I don't find that to be the case here, but it's certainly nothing against her personally.

Even if we agree to disagree on how well she can belt, my original point was that it's not anywhere near what she's best served doing, and her litany of soprano roles only prove that. Even her most ardent supporter wouldn't deny where her voice "lives."
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Grrrr, none of the rehearsal footage looks any good to me. I was actually looking forward to this too! No matter what is said about Broderick, I've always loved the guy. Also, the thought of a Gershwin score on Broadway again warms my heart. Hopefully this shapes up to be a decent show once previews start.

I agree with Eric on this one. Watching a video of random scenes with no context or book while still being rehearsed is not indicative of the final product. Why don't we at least wait for previews before criticizing a show? Not sure why they invited press this soon but I'm sure they have reasons.
The only review of a show that matters is your own.

If producers are inane enough to put out a video to the public, they deserve every brickbat they get - no one is judging the final show, people are commenting on the awfulness of what's on view. They should stop this practice immediately and go about their business in private - you know, just like every show from the year One on has done until about a decade ago when this crap started happening.
