That's what people hate so much? It isn't the next instant classic, for sure, but looks better than what some posts on here suggest, to me at least. I love the choreography. And Raul looks yummier than ever!
I'm wondering if I'll feel the same way about this as Sister Act. Everyone I knew warned me against it. I ended up loving the hell out of it, when I eventually saw it.

Posted: 4/21/12 at 3:03amI admit the actual material doesn't strike me as bad... My main reaction though is that--at least in the clips, the set looks UGLY, like something my eyes would tire of after five minutes.

Posted: 4/21/12 at 5:31pmThe set is surprisingly unobtrusive since so much goes on in the auditorium. The lighting in the clips is strange - most of the color elements do not appear that way in person.

Raul looks good, the material looks good.
The set isn't very attractive, but doesn't seem too distracting.
Honestly, if no one had told me this show was bad, those clips would really excite me.

Posted: 4/21/12 at 7:33pmWhy should someone else's opinion be the deciding factor? I've gone to lots of highly praised shows that didn't appeal to me. And some of the opinions on this board are from people who haven't seen the current production, or have other axes to grind with people involved. So go and see for yourself. There is ample talent in this production to make it worthwhile.

Well I really liked it, and I saw first preview which I knew was a first preview and therefore would be flawed and enjoyed it nonetheless. A friend of mine went and saw it today (and loved it) and it sounds like there were huge differences from the first preview. I'm hoping to go back in the next week or two and see what they changed.
I really do not understand all of the harsh, brutal negativity towards this show. I mean, sure it's not for everyone, but I think this show could be a surprise hit of the season if the changes my friend was describing were as good as they sounded.
And the video is a great representation! Yay!

Wow, I wasn't fully prepared... According to the nine and a half minutes served up here, this typifies one of those dreadful shows I would sit through years ago with a famous director (now deceased) who would turn to me at certain intervals and mutter: "They can't be serious."

It's interesting, isn't it, how angry those haters of the show are. Not only this show, but whenever there's a show where some posters really enjoy themselves, those haters sound so angry about it.

Posted: 4/22/12 at 5:27pmSaw yesterday's matinee. The show is not perfect, and the show-within-a-show concept doesn't work at all in my opinion, but I really enjoyed it. I am an Esparza fan, and he is wonderful in this role and he is working his ass off. Was it the best thing I have seen? Not by a long shot, not even the best thing I've seen this season (that goes to a brilliant high school production of Into the Woods, not joking at all), but it was fun, the entire cast is incredible (isn't it wonderful to see an ensemble that looks like real people) and the music is a great combination of country-rock and gospel that fits in the world of these characters.
