I don't like it... I don't like it at all. As much as this show doesn't work, the accents just top it all off.

And what's with the lighting for the interviews?

I didn't like Popular as much as I did on the OBC, but then I didn't like Helen's interpretation as much as I liked what I could grasp of Kristin's from the recording. Although that may be because I'm used to the recording. Although I liked other things more live than on the recording.

Thanks for the video. Strangely the sound sounds more synthetic on the video than it does in the house.

Dancing Through Life wasn't that great.

Anybody else this the video was just as much a tribute to the show as to Idina Menzel... HAHA! The accents would take getting used to for me if I ever saw it though... that's for sure. Otherwise it is basically identical to NYC. Good to see Idina green again!

Having seen the London show more than a few times now, I don't think those video snippets are representative of the quality of the performances given with an audience in front of the performers. I am guessing, but it seems to me that what we see are sections of the show performed just for the recording of the publicity video - they don't have the same oomph as normally performed.

Having listened for months to the OBCR it was a shock (even for us Brits) to hear some parts performed with an English accent - especially Helen Dallimore's Glinda. I think that the immediate reaction was not to like it - but the more I've heard and seen her the more I've forgotten about the OBCR and embraced the idea that this production is primarily for us Brits - so why shouldn't she be a snobbish 'upper crust' English public schoolgirl?! I think Helen is still developing Glinda - its fun to see her growing into the part.

Idina Menzel's accent is unmistakenly American in performance except for the odd bit of pronunciation. During 'What is the Feeling?' when she describes Galinda as 'blonde' - its not an American 'blaaarrnd' its an English clipped 'blonde' - and its just that bit funnier to an English ear because of the way she says it.

The after show party was held in the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand. The central hall is vast and very high - it doesn't have particularly bright lighting. Great venue for a party though!

I'm sure Helen is talented but, her Popular did not fit her voice at all. That role is made for an American actress. Glinda and Elphaba are characters who have to have Ameircan accents. Adam Garcia's Daaaancing through Life sounded reallly bad.

But why do Elphaba and Glinda have to have American accents? Is Oz in America? No.
Oz is Oz... who cares?

I disagree. I'm not a fan of the creative writing aspects of the show, the book and lyrics, but I think the British accents seem to help it. especially during "Popular". I guess that joke about Brits saying anything, and it sounding like Shakespeare applies here to me. it seems to make the crap sound kinda good.

I liked some of the pronunciation changed - Dancing Through Life with English accent was good. Idina sings about the Wizard and I not the Wizard and Hi. I still look forward to hearing someone Defy GraviTy though!

That was very brave to change it to "Doncing Through Life"!

As much as Adam Garcia is hot, it seems very odd for him to try and sing it in a very American accent and then just throw in the 'Doncing'. Kind of puzzling if you ask me...

I don't hear him attempting an American accent in the clip. if you listen, "Gloncing" and other words are also spoken with his normal accent. it's not just that one word.

eeeee *spazz*. AMAZING re: BWW TV: WICKED Flies Into London! just. amazing. And all the idina love!! I couldn't have asked for a better video!! and the new footage!! OMG.

Adam is SO YUMMY. and the DANCING in dancing through life!!

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

nigel planner's american accent is so damn brash (see also the olc recording of chicago)

a british fiyero actually works nicely (a handsome playboy prince who's british.... sounds familiar)

but popular just wasn't quite workin' for me

I thought it was dreadful. Apart from Wonderful, I think the singing is poor; the accents don't work and I'm sick of seeing Idina doing an average job of a fantastic role.
I don't believe the accents would sound too bad, if they had another Elphie, only after hearing Idina, you expect to hear the an American response from Glinda, and when it doesn't happen, you are dissapointed.
