I agree, it would be "Waitress" for sure, except I've seen it. I enjoyed it, but not sure I want to see it again. Actually, "Chicago" wears very well. I've seen it three or four times. No interest in "Phantom." I'll go back and look the off-Broadway list. Nothing jumped out at me at first, but you've suggest "Imbible" and someone else recommended "Sweeney Todd." I didn't love the Broadway revival, but this sounds a bit different.
Oh, as for "Cats," I think I liked it so many years ago (would have been 87 or 88, I think) as I was a young and largely inexperienced theatergoer. I expect I'm far less likely to enjoy it at this point, having seen so many incredible shows over the years.
Thanks so much for all your help today. :)
You are welcome. I actually recommended Imbible before I knew Sweeney was playing on Thanksgiving. I would def see it over Imbible, but if you hated the storyline and songs last time, those do not change obviously.
Please report back on what line-up you decide on. And then after your trip, i would love to hear about your experiences of each show. With Hello Dolly and The Band’s Visit in the mix, you are guaranteed to have a great time.
Damn! The list is wrong. Went back to check out "The Imbible" and got really excited. Sounded perfect. But it's NOT playing on Thanksgiving. No tickets for sale for Nov. 23.
I am leaning toward seeing "Once on this Island" on Saturday. Have you seen it?
No, but it sounds promising. And I know it has been underperforming at the box office so should be easy to snag a ticket.
Just read some of the member reviews on the Once On This Island previews thread and wow, now I wish I had seen it!!!
Rave reviews for sure. I just posted a question about the best place to sit, because I can't tell from the seating chart. It shouldn't matter too much at the Circle in the Square, but based on the staging, some places are a little better than others. Hope you can see it soon.
I saw Fun Home there. I got my ticket through TKTS. I was sitting front row. I could have at times touched any of the cast (and been promptly thrown out...lol). It was the first of my 7 shows that trip. It was a great trip.

FYI, there are discounts available for Once On This Island, in case you didn't see them.
I just looked. Sweeney Todd is not playing on Thanksgiving Day.
I did and will be using one. Thanks!

Not sure if you still wanted to see something tomorrow, but another option I just thought of was the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular.

You could also look at nightclubs:
BB King's has a Beatles tribute
Green Room 42 has Queensgiving (drag show)
54 Below has Ben Vereen (pricey)
Musicals:
Besides Waitress, I'd recommend Once On This Island and Kinky Boots if you haven't seen the incomparable Billy Porter.
Plays:
I'd recommend Torch Song. It's gotten great reviews.

Hi... hope you see this. I just had to tell you how fabulous that house left seat was -- Row N, Seat 13. It would been an excellent seat anyway, far better than it appeared on the seating chart. But would you believe that four seats immediately in front of me and two seats immediately in front of them were empty? Vacant! I'm sure there were a few someones cursing their bosses or babysitters or the transit gods. But it was heaven for me. Because nothing ruins an otherwise perfect orchestra seat than a big head in front of you. I couldn't believe my luck. And I loved the show. All three that I saw the past two days -- yesterday's matinee of Hello, Dolly!, The Band's Visit last night and Once On This Island this afternoon. Thanks so much for you help! :)
^You don’t know how happy this makes me. Hello Dolly and The Band’s Visit were my top 2 favorites of my 6 shows I saw on my recent trip. Glad you had a great time!!!! If you’re still there, give NYC a big smooch for me. I miss it so!
Amazing seats for the DOLLY matinee on Sunday with Bette center orchestra G, H & K $229!!!
Also, front row sides B 2-4 and B 3-7 $229!!!
GRAB 'EM!

You're welcome, and I'm happy that seat worked out as well as it did!
I just got home via Amtrak but plan to go back very soon. I had planned to see the exhibit of Michelangelo drawings at The Met this morning before "Once On This Island" (also fabulous!), but I didn't get going early enough to give me enough quality time before heading to Circle in the Square. I want to see if as soon as possible. May head back up on a Saturday in December or wait for the crowds to thin in January. How often do you get there?
Personally I think there is better and more affordable theatre in DC than NYC. Between Signature, Studio, Wooly Mammoth, Synetic, Arena, Keegan, 1st Stage, Olney, Roundhouse among another 100 others why are you missing Broadway? I hope you are taking advantage of the tremendous amount of arts in DC.
I totally understand. I tend to stay out later in NYC. Then stay up even later in my hotel room. Then have trouble getting going in the morning.
I live in Oklahoma and travel often for work (in fact, I am leaving for short work trip to Reno in the morning). All that travel means I rarely have to pay for flights or hotels on my NYC trips (yeah Hilton Honors points and Delta Skymiles/vouchers!), but it also means I have to fit NYC into a busy work schedule (not complaining. I love my work and it affords me ability to enjoy NYC when I’m there). So I usually only make it once a year. This time was the longest I had ever gone between trips (21 months - too long - never again!).
Personally, I’ve only seen two shows in D.C. (while I live in Oklahoma, I have friends I can visit in Bethesda). I saw Oliver! (can’t recall where) and Little Dancer (at Kennedy Center). While enjoyable, neither lived up to the expectations I have for a Broadway show. I’m sure a more seasoned D.C. theatre patron, such as yourself, might disagree. But to each their own. If someone finds joy in NYC, no need to rain on their parade.
I agree. Superb theater town, and I've taken some -- but not nearly enough -- advantage of it. It's oddly easier for me to see shows in NYC, as most of the time I'm there strictly for leisure and entertainment. In Washington, curtain is two to three hours after work, and my exhaustion sets in quickly. And like most people here who live outside the city and commute to the city every weekday, going back on the weekends is often the last thing I want to do. But you are entirely correct about the quantity and quality of theater here. I'll try to do better. :)
I also do Hilton Honors. In fact, used points for both nights this trip. I've stayed at a bunch of their properties in and near the theater district, but I long ago discovered the Hilton Times Square via Priceline. It remains one of my favorite hotels. I always get a south-facing room, from which you can see most everything from the Empire State Building to the Freedom Tower. Have you stayed there? That's great that you get to travel for work so much. I used to travel more, usually for conferences, and I always took care to avoid the travel agency my employer wanted us to use. Those tickets and reservations were billed to my employer. I usually succeeded at working around the agency so I could use my own hotel and airline credit cards to get the points and miles. I also have an Amtrak credit card and many points -- though they're worth far less than they used to be as Amtrak constantly increases the amount you have to use for a ticket. Oh for the era of easy, entirely flexible, Amtrak travel on "unreserved" trains. Those days, sadly, are long gone. :)

i have not stayed at that specific Hilton property before. I did stay at the Doubletree right in Times Square for one night one time (so expensive), but swore I’d never do it again because while it was fun, I couldn’t rationalize the expense and I’ve tired of Times Square. I’ve stayed at other non-Hilton properties near there before, too. I’ll admit though that while I enjoy many parts of the city, it is nice to be so close to Broadway. This time I stayed at the new Millenium Hilton near the UN (not be confused with the Millenium Hilton Downtown). Very nice hotel with great views of either the East River (which I got) or Chrysler and Empire State Buildings. I got a great point redemption rate as it has recently been converted into a Hilton property and for a short period they were trying to draw customers, I suppose. But the downside was that it took longer to get places or return home at the end of the night. As a result, I ended up taking taxis more than I would have liked when running late and didn’t have time to walk to subway, etc. I’ll keep the Hilton Times Square on my radar in the future. I actually changed my hotel reservations five times (all Hilton properties) for this vacation before i settled on this one. Lol. Always looking for the best hotel with the best point redemption value while also not too far out of the way. I’ve stayed all over, even Jersey City (just a long commute at the end of a long night) and Newark (never again! Lol). I like midtown and even downtown. Probably won’t stay near UN again although room was a very nice size and staff were great.
