I was there for the closing. I saw this in April/May and yes the book is cringe, but the vocals and score are top-notch. The energy was great at the closing performance. Lots of standing ovations and entrance applause. Lea, Nicholas and Aaron all held the money notes a little longer. A sweet speech by Lea at the end. Glad I went. Is it a great musical? No. But I still had a blast.

So I finally saw Chess last night. Bad things first: the book is RIDICULOUS. The Cold War chess love triangle had all these cringe geopolitical jokes that took me out. When the Arbiter (Bryce Pinkham) made the Biden joke I felt my eyes roll to the back of my head. So it was overall really dumb. The CIA and KGB stuff was ridiculous too.The Russian accents were horrific. Maybe I'm just spoiled because I saw Heated Rivalry and then Ponies, and the actors there worked so hard to perfect the Russi...

So I saw Becky Shaw this afternoon. Full disclosure: I mostly saw it because I love Patrick Ball on The Pitt.I had heard great things about the play. Wow, I was disappointed. I thought the play had some very funny lines, and Alden Ehrenreich as Max and Ball as Andrew were fine. Max really stole every scene he was in. All three stars have excellent attendance except for scheduled absences. With that being said, it's flu season anything can happen.

I feel like this time, if there are abusive behaviors, people will be less fearful of speaking out. The best way to neutralize bullies is often to simply speak out about it, because most bullies are essentially cowards too. With that being said, I totally have Death of a Salesman fatigue.

It pretty much changed during the lockdown pandemic when actors of shows were asking for bootlegs on their social media ...

I think with Sunset it's the orchestrations that sounded great. Too often Broadway orchestras go for that brassy sound. The Sunset orchestra seemed to use more strings.

For all the talk about Patti Lupone's "old-school" persona, she missed a lot of Evita shows. Julie Andrews missed a lot of My Fair Lady shows too.The modern-day performer who truly does not miss shows (unless it's something really serious like covid, or pre-planned absences) is Aaron Tveit. I also have to say: I found the Tony campaign for Audra to be the most obnoxious I've ever seen. I know that this is the show's job to hustle for Tony's, but all those articles that pretty much were advertisements for her turned me off. I don't blame Audra for any of this. The show's producers decide these things. But it was obnoxious, especially as the Tony campaign in May was when her attendance started flagging the most.

One thing that I noticed about the social media discourse was that everything she posted on IG because "YASSS QUEEN" and "I cried 20x last night over Rose's Turn" and after awhile it seemed like ... I won't say bots bc I think the people were real, but I wondered if it was people artificially drumming up enthusiasm on social media during the Tony campaign.Bc the actual word of mouth (meaning the people I knew who saw it and I asked them how it was, and these were all longtime theater nerds) w...

This thread is kind of dumb. She's subbing for a star on vacation. No one expected her to be Ethel Merman.
