Its still the only way you can mic bald people! lol
Point is, it does work, but it sounds much less good than forehead placement, and better sound quality, and thus a better aural experience at the theatre, can be achieved with forehead placement. The vast majority of people, but most importantly, producers, would rather have better sound quality.
At some point in the future miniscule mics will get to an affordable level, but until they do (and itll be a while) this is how its done.

On February 13th, Hairspray bid a fond farewell to Diana DeGarmo ("American Idol") and welcomed film star Alexa Vega (Spy Kids, Sleepover), who succeeded DeGarmo as Penny Pingleton. The celebration took place at the Palm West Restaurant.
