Bad Hair Day!

I managed to get 2 friends of mine house seats for tonight's performance of 'Hairspray' and I cant tell you how excited these two guys were standing outside the Shaftesbury Theatre at 7pm!!! They have wanted to see the show for months and have travelled 2 hrs out of London to see it.

I have just met them at the interval and boy! -I couldn't believe the faces as they walked towards me! They said it was a dreadful performance with the cast seemingly just walking thru it, sound problems with static continuously from the speakers and very noisy scene changes- the whole picture I got was that the show was just being walked thru by one and all! One wanted to leave but after some persuading they both have now gone back for act 2!
I'm a little shocked- these guys are full time theatre goers and know what they are talking about seeing many shows a year.
Its been 7 months since I last saw it and there are very few reports on here about posters seeing the show.
It will be an interesting dissection over dinner later!!!

re: Bad Hair Day!

I have seen it twice (both times days seats in the front row) and didn't notice any sound problems and can't say that I noticed any noise on the set changes either.

re: Bad Hair Day!

I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it was full of energy. As far as I could tell there were no problems with sound etc.

Ooh, I'll have the same. Let's push the boat out. Or in, as the case may be.

re: Bad Hair Day!

Where are you eating?

There's some interesting and reasonable little places near the Shaftesbury.

Sometimes I eat at Joe Allen's to see *the stars of theatreland* but I always wake up at 3am feeling as though I have a brick in my stomach.

re: Bad Hair Day!

Tracie Bennett has already gone and we're coming into the last week for many of the cast(at least 1 finishes tomorrow, sob), so suppose those staying are rehearsing more than usual, but most not the type to phone it in.

House seats stalls C?
Sound is often a bit much in first circle but stalls usually fine.

re: Bad Hair Day!

Oooooops!

Even the posters on the wall look like left-over stock that they wouldn't put up at the New York branch.

Still, they probably taste better than the food.

re: Bad Hair Day!

Do you think the guys were jealous of Edna!!!!!

I was in day seat about three weeks ago, I did not notice any noisy set changes........oh yeah, it still kicks arse as being the best show in Lonson!!!!

re: Bad Hair Day!

I saw it last Saturday (again) and the show was still great!

re: Bad Hair Day!

RIGHT!
I think these guys just didn't enjoy the show full stop! They picked on everything and everything and then didn't even buy me dinner! Thats the last time I get house seats for them - next time they can try TicketMasrer and see what tickets they get for a Friday at 1 weeks notice! They are seeing another favorite show of mine today, 'Zorro'! They better not say a word! They have been warned!
SO, regarding 'Hairspray' -it is still the best fun night night out in the West End and from what everyone else says its still in top form! I must go again and get my hair done pretty soon!!!

re: Bad Hair Day!

The show last night was incredible, actually even better than the first time I saw it. I thought that if there was any time the cast would consider taking it easy and just walking through it, it would be on a not-particularly-busy Tuesday evening but it was electric. Wendy Somerville was Velma last night (she was the 'female authority figure' last time I went) and she was pretty good, much funnier than Tracie Bennett.

However, Dannii Minogue was sitting a couple of rows in front of me so perhaps they were just showing off.

re: Bad Hair Day!

lovepigeon - "not-particularly-busy Tuesday", does this mean the show isn't selling well?

scripps2 - Liz Robertson as Velma? You are joking right?
#24

re: Bad Hair Day!

I think Ms . J Lerner goes in as Velma next Mon?

re: Bad Hair Day!

Alterego: It's not selling badly, just not as well as when it first started and it's hit just about average I think. It's doing quite well from its discounts midweek so people obviously still want to see it and it went down just as well as it did when it started. I reckon it'll slow down considerably once Michael Ball goes but right now it's easily one of the best things in the West End.
