I have to admit, I was an Autumn fan, but I was really impressed by that performance. I did notice she did not really hit that jump right at the end though? Isn't the blackout supposed to happen at the top of her jump? Anyway, I wish her luck, and hope she continues to improve and has the stamina to finish eight shows a week for a long run.
"I know the key was lowered for Bundy too. What does that have to do with Bailey being able to hit it. If they were comfortable with Bailey hitting it in the original key 8x a week, I'm sure they would have tried it. Unless the key change is permanent for the show."
Ljay, the key change is permanent and was from the moment they did it for LBB.
Bailey does sound "so much better" in that clip - but her performance is off. She didn't seem to be a character - rather, it looked to me like she was remembering what to do and when and where and hitting her marks. She's not - yet - letting the role flow. She's doing as she was told - at least in this clip.
And I liked the twirl. Not doing it doesn't make Bailey creating her own character - it's just "not there" - she hasn't replaced it with any signature move. I would have lost the karate kick/chop on "fight" before dumping the twirl
I don't care how long or good the quality of the bootleg is. You cannot judge a performance and make the kinds of comments the original poster did without having actually seen the performance in question. I just watched the bootleg in question on the forbidden site. I see that you can't even see her face because of spotlight washout, which further renders this original poster's opinion null and void. She did sound great, though.
I have NO idea if Bailey is doing a LBB impression, because I haven't seen her in the show yet. Now that I'm back from my long trip, I'll be seeing her Thursday night, and will then have more of an opinion on the matter.
"To the person who said the note was a whole step lower, the key to "the hardest song ever to be sung on Broadway" was lowered long ago *for* Bundy."
Yeah, we already knew that, but thanks anyway Almighty Source of Power and Wisdom.
I guess for me, I thought the best I could hope for is "not an unmitigated disaster" and she has surpassed that. She seems competent but she strikes me as someone who needs some seasoning before being thrown into this lions den. I don't care how talented she is and she's done regional theater, etc. This is the major leagues and only in Damn Yankees does a rookie get in the big game that fast (and he had to sell his soul to get there).
This experiment sounded good on paper, in the pitch meeting and in the MTV offices, but is it fair to Bailey Hanks?
I'll come to New York and see for myself.
b3 when exactly are you going to outgrow your asshole phase?
My opinion is, we're seeing an excellent example of why you really can't give starring roles in Broadway shows to actors who have never worked Broadway before.
LBB came into the role having spent literally years on Broadway and she knows how to emphasize the lines, deliver the jokes and put a button on her movements that Bailey seems to lack.
That's not stuff you only gain from having been on Broadway. It's about experience, period. I've seen actors make their Broadway debuts and be able to hold their own with the best. But they've had tons of experience under their belts, which she does not. And plenty of young actors do just fine on Broadway at their respective ages; but in those cases, there's talent that's not present here, either. Bottom line is they slapped some girl who was cute, could sing, and copy the previously-laid performance into a leading role on Broadway despite the fact that she's not ready to handle it.

I'm posting on all the threads that have Bailey or LB in the title.
I am from Bailey's home town and would like to see her in the show. Please tell me if this is a good seating area to see her face clearly.
ORCH Sect. Row F

That would be 6th or 7th row, it's very close to the stage. I've been in row N in the ORCH and I could see her face, so I don't think you have to worry about that lol.

actually Emcee nailed it.
The move that Bailey does at 2:30 in the bootleg is impressive. I don't remember LBB doing that!
In a way she is trying to make the role her own but probably doing, in some cases, what LBB did to keep the show the way people liked it. She did a few moves that LBB didn't and I also noticed that when she gave the "list" to onw of the sorority girls, she had to lean forward to get it. I'm guessing because Bailey is not as tall as LBB who just handed it to her. Bailey also did this during the show finale to give it to Cassie O. Every time the Delta Nus pop up, I keep thinking "Look! It's the girls from the show!". Anyway, by time, Bailey should progress.
PS In your own opinion, should they have given the girls who didn't win the show a Delta Nu role or have them in the ensemble?

I do agree that she's making the role her own. She always annoyed me on the MTV show because it seemed she was copying Laura Bell's every move. But when I saw her last week I didn't get that sense at all. She has improved so much, and like many have said before, you really can't judge her performance on a 3 minute clip. I'm sure she'll only get better from here on.
