Im sorry, I paid for a good performance, and she phoned it in completely.
I don't see how it's rude to express my displeasure, especially when I paid a ridiculous amount of money.
She was bad, she did a bad job, she didn't hit a lot of the notes, she flubbed lines, it was obvious she didn't care
It was rude of Ms. Peters to give such a terrible performance.
PS, this was The Goodbye Girl, not Gypsy.

Fenchurch, you actually booed her?
Not clapping is one thing but actually booing someone is another- and immature and inappropriate!
Maybe something happened to her, maybe she was ill. You don't know... and even if she was phoning it in, booing is completely rude and totally uncalled for!
How would you feel?

There's noting immature or inappropriate about it.
I got a raw deal, not her.
If it's ok to express one's pleasure with a performance with a loud display (applause, hooting and hollering, Brava, etc) then it should be a two-way street.
And if I EVER gave a performance as bad as she did that night, I would have expected more than boos, and I would have accepting them as my just desserts.
Where I come from, if you don't do a good job, you get booed, nobody quietly applauds or just does nothing and pretends it's okay that you basically stole $100 of my money.

Fenchurch, I don't care if she gave a performance that made Hayden Christiansen's performance in Attack of the Clones look Oscar-worthy, you do not boo a performer, be it a star like Bernadette Peters or an ensemble member. I don't care if it was a bad performance. What you did was uncalled for!

Posted: 5/15/07 at 4:08pmThe earlier posts of flinging panties both baffles and intrigues me. Am I supposed to be flattered if someone flung their panties at me while I was performing? What is one supposed to do with such a sovenir? I always heard that women did that at Tom Jones concerts. I just don't get it.

was at phantom in london and saw a guy sitting a few rows infront of me, all bundled up with a hoodie and scarf (it was warm inside) and in the middle of the first act 2 ushers grabed him up and hauled him out, totally embarrasing for him. Apparently he was filming the show.
Im glad i saw this happen because it was a slow day and the level i was in was ablut half empty and i thought to myself, dam, if only i brought my camera. lol.

Mattbrain,
I see no law where it says I can't boo a bad performance. I see nothing wrong with it. I paid for a service (entertainment) and when I don't get it, they will know about it.
All I can say is that you better be sure to give a good performance if youre in a show that I'm watching.
Mind you, I've never booed before, and something has to be EGREGIOUS for me to boo.
That performance of the Goodbye Girl was a nightmare...and deserved fruit thrown at it (and her). NO matter how uncomfortable she was in that show, she should have quit rather than give the performance she gave.

It happened at a few performance of Jersey Boys in San Francisco. After the guys playing the Four Seasons finished singing, someone in the audience would throw a pair onstage during an applause break. I guess they forgot they were at the theater and were at an actual Four Seasons concert. But one guys would pick it up and stuff it in their jacket pocket. I have no idea what they did with it after.

I think I remember Hugh Jackman talking about a woman who threw panties at him during a performance of The Boy From OZ.
Also, during the performance I was at of the show I got to see a woman from the audience bite Hugh's butt. That was a sight I never thought I'd see.

This is stupider than Fenchurch's original post. If Fenchurch didn't boo the black person, he'd be racist.

I'd just like to state that when I saw my cousin's production of Joseph, I wasn't crazy about it. I thought it was bad. But I put on my happy face and told my cousin she did a great job. I did not boo.
If anyone should be banned from a theatre, it's Fenchurch.

Well, I was told by a company member of a show that someone in the front row was booing a cast member - I don't know if it happened for more than one performance or not - and was banned from that theater for a while. That's all I know.

Look how in the Color Purple thread he said it was acceaptable to holler during the show simply because that's a part of black church culture. I’m black and I’ve been to plenty of church. But church is church and theatre is theatre.
