so after just getting back from my 2nd trip ever to NYC, I have to give a brief rundown of the ups and downs of my afternoon at the theater:
UPS:
The play was amazing. It is one of my favorite plays, and having just read it before leaving for NYC, it was fresh in my mind. Patrick was great and that's not because he's my favorite actor. Jill and Tony were really good as well. My seats were in row BB,seat 112. I was less than 3 feet from the stage.
Downs:
I went into the play thinking nothing bad (meaning I wasn't going to pass judgements based on other's opinions) however, I will say that I had a hard time liking Amanda. She practically yelled through the entire first part of the first act. I'm not sure if it was that clear further away, but at that close of range, it was hard to get past. A lady beside me had her cell phone go off twice in the latter part of the 2nd act. It bugged me not because it went off, it bugged me that her and her husband talked about it after it happened. It took me a while to get back into the play and it was an important scene between Corie and her Mother.
STAGE DOOR:
Tony first came out, I was the third in line to the right of the door so they all came to us first. He was really sweet and asked where I was from. When I told me Poquoson, Va he laughed and was like "Really?" and I told him it was ok and that not many people have heard of it and he looked releaved. Patrick came out next. Now I can go on about how happy it was to meet my favorite actor up close, that was amazing in itself, but what he said next shocked me. I had put on my Mason sweatshirt because it had gotten chilly and he looked at it as I handed him my playbill and he smiled and said "Go Mason! Aren't you proud? Congratulations Patriots". I was stunned that Patrick Wilson had heard of my school 4 hours away. Adam Sietz came out last and stayed for quite some time. His wife and daughter were out there, so he brought his daughter over the barricades where she went around helping her dad sign things. Too cute. Patrick stayed for a while before heading back in, then back out with his cell phone and continued down the street like an average person.
Amanda didn't come out. she "Slipped under radar" according to the security guy. And Jill didn't come out because she wasn't feeling well (she looked like she wasn't feeling well at the curtain call)
so yeah little long, but I just wanted to get some stuff out before I go to bed. It's been a long day. thank you to the people of NYC for being amazing. You have a GREAT city, one that I am fortunate to get to visit. Thank you!

I felt the same way about Amanda Peet.
I'm sad that you didn't get to meet the entire cast; they are all so gracious... except for Amanda Peet.

I am so glad you had a good time at Barefoot and a wonderful time meeting Mister Wilson. He's a great guy.
And, weren't his facial expressions priceless when he tasted the Martini. And wasn't he hystercial in Act II when he had the flu. The more fevered he became the more incredibly funny he was. I loved it!
Thanks for sharing about your trip!

Posted: 4/30/06 at 3:25amI saw this show today at 2pm as well...and both my friends and i thought amanda was great, she didn't yell her lines, she is supossed to scream in the beginning, becuz she is on a 5th floor. Anyways, i got to meet amanda again and she was super nice to her fans...she is extremely shy though, and yes, she always seems to be in a rush. Patrick in particular is soooooooooo nice...the rest of the cast were very friendly as well. Oh, and Adam is the best at the stage door!

muscle-- I know she was supposed to yell when shouting down the stairs, but when she was talking to the Repairman, it was really loud and it sounded as if she were shouting. It got better throughout the show, but it annoyed me at first.
beacon: Oh Patrick Wilson, I cannot begin to express what i think of him. The martini expressions were great as were the expressions with him sitting alone on the couch with the jacket and scarf right after Corie's mother left and Corie was talking to him in the other room and being as close as I was I saw a lot of of cute things. Like right after his mother in law "pops" the snack, he goes behind the couch to look for it and mouths "where is it" to Corie. Wasn't sure if that was scripted or he really couldn't find it. I also LOVED when they were fighting and he was changing into his pajamas and his shirt was tucked into his underware and he sort of jumped into his slippers.

Posted: 4/30/06 at 2:51pmhe came out, circled the fans there waiting, then stepped out of the security barricades and spoke to other fans and took pictures and recieved gifts. Then he went back in and came out about 10 minutes later with his phone smiled and said hi again and walked down the street. It was as if he was visiting the star of the show, as opposed to being the star of the show

Yes, she did that very well. But when she spoke to a person in the room with her, she still shouted. She was trying to project her voice to the back of the theatre, but she doesn't know how, so she shouts. She does it throughout the entire performance, not just when she's speaking to someone downstairs.
