With the news that Sci Fi channel has picked up the new BBC "Doctor Who" series to start airing in March, it should also be noted that John Barrowman plays a rather rascally gay character in the series...and will be returning in the new season in England later this year. Sci Fi is starting to air the first season John did...and this means the scheduled DVD release of it will be delayed in the U.S. until after it airs on Sci Fi.

In general this is good news, but it's coming way too late - most of the die hard Dr Who fans were getting the episodes off the net right after they aired in the UK, and a large number of them (myself included) have already bought the DVD set from the UK (around $90, PAL, comes in a guady oversized box).

Good series, Barrowman's character is dead sexy.

Although my primary residence is in London, I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I never really followed "Dr. Who" until the new series with John. Hopefully, John Barrowman fans in the U.S.A. will discover the series through him too. It is something of a departure from his musical comedy roles.

His character is bisexual in the series, not gay.

His character has actually been given his own spin-off show. I'm not certain of the details but it is definitely going ahead.

Yes, it's a 13 episode series for BBC-3 titled "Torchwood". But he'll also be returning to "Dr. Who" for another season.

He was also in a new BBC show about musicals, broadcast on Saturday last. I don't know if you can see his number with Ruthie Hershaw on the BBC's digital cahnnel, but you might want to try.....

He's also one of those TV ice skating shows with the stars --- but in U.K. only. You get to vote for him.
