Did anyone get the chance to see Bat Boy the Musical Off-Broadway?
I just bought the soundtrack for the show last week, and I really like the music! Unfortunately, I never got to see the show and I'm dying to see it now. I'm also a fan of Kerry Butler, and would have liked to see her in it. Anyone have any opinions of the show?
I did & I really enjoyed it. DEvan's understudy was in it & he was great
Joizey, I noticed that Montclair State is doing a production of BatBoy soon. I haven't been there in a while, but I'd seen some pretty decent shows there in the past. I loved BatBoy at Union Square and thought Deven May was outstanding. Big shoes for someone to fill, but I'm planning to go with an open mind. If you want more details let me know and I'll dig out the clipping I have somewhere or another.
Yes! I loooooved it. Saw it 3X's, 1X w/understudy. 1st time, saw it in previews, sat across the aisle fr Nathan Lane & Steve Schwartz.

Iflitifloat -- I would be so gracious if you could give me any info. about the show. I've been wanting to see something nearby -- or at least audition for it -- and Monclair is the perfect opportunity. I think the music is a lot of fun, and some of the numbers are just so great. I love "Whatcha' Gonna' Do'" with Kerry Butler and Doug Storm rapping, and "Inside Your Heart" is a really sweet song, despite some of the silliness. My e-mail address is 'joizeyactor@aol.com', so just send me any information at all, Iflitifloat! Thanks again!
I'm a junior in High School right now, and I want to convince our director to do Bat Boy one of these years, but from what I've heard on the soundtrack, some of the singing parts might be difficult for highschool kids - especially a small school where guys are SO rare in the theatre department. Oh well, I'll have to check out the local community theatre, and maybe in college when I get there!
PS: How was Kerry Butler in that? She once again plays a girl, but she sounds funny in the show.

i am also a big fan of bat boy. It played at a regional/ proffesional theatre in dallas this summer.(theatre3) neway i auditioned, to play the reverend, and got outcast by a friend. He deserved it. I bought tickets to go see it, and then my mother requested, or rather demanded, that i drive to california, so i didn't get to see it. But i heard great things nonetheless.

I'm obsessed with this show!! My old high school is doing it this spring and I am so jealous. A regional theater I worked at a few times is doing it in July and August of 2004 and I'm dying to be in it. *crossing fingers* "Children, Children" is the most RANDOM song EVER and it's HILAAAARIOUS. And "Whatcha Wanna Do" always cracks me up, especially Kerry Butler's beat boxing on the recording, lol. And I loooove Deven as Edgar!! I'm so excited to see him as Johnnie in "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" at Goodspeed (yay Remy!)...he's awesome and ATGIB is one of my favorite stories of all time.
Saw it 2x in NYC. Once at Yale. and once in Milford, CT. I am a BATOPHILE!
I saw a community theater production of Bat Boy and fell in love with it. The music is great, and I love the story. I didn't see the show in Union Square, but I love the recording anyway, and Kerry sounds amazing.
Bat Boy The Musical touched my heart. Deven May was fantastic, bravo, bravo, standing ovation time. I loved Kerry Butler and Kaitlin Hopkins also. "Let Me Walk Among You" my favorite song in the show.
My favorite song is "Three Bedroom House." I saw a production in Boston last spring, and it was great!
Never saw it, not at all familiar with it, but for awhile now I've reeeeaaallllly wanted to get the recording. This post has inspired me further! Yay!
I liked "A Home for You" best of all...that's the duet where Meredith and BatBoy first begin to communicate. It blew me away the first time I saw it, and I've never tired of it. It really is quite lovely and touching.
Besides "Children, Children" I really like "Show you a thing or two." Its so cute.
I never got to see it live, but I do enjoy the CD
.
I had emailed this info to Joizeyactor, but it occurred to me that others here might be interested, too. So here you go (and no, I have no ties to MSU...other than an Anthropology degree that's gathered a lot of dust...):

They also have a FAQ, etc. The site is pretty comprehensive and whatever isn't there, you can ask on the message board. Often the creative team posts responses to questions (Larry, Brian and Keythe)

Loved that show. I saw it off-broadway three times, twice with the understudy, who was great, and once with Deven. "Three Bedroom House" and "Show You a Thing or Two" always crack me up.
I saw a club act that Laurence O'Keefe (the Bat Boy composer) did, and he had Devin there singing his music. It was a riot.
"The Rivals" is a great Restoration comedy, by Sheridan i believe. Stages here in Houston is doing BAT BOY, but i don't know most of the cast. JRB_ACTOR, the mother is being played by Kara Greenberg...can you picture that?!?!?
