Hi all. Sorry to start a random thread like this but I've been out of the loop because I haven't been going to New York for work much. But I'll be there all next week and am going to the bright star concert Monday night (!!!!), Natasha Pierre, and Falsettos. I have room for more (Tuesday night) so what would you pick if you were me? Sadly I may not be back until spring (and starting in June I will be abroad so I will be away for a whole year!). Only looking at the shows that opened this season since I have seen all of the older shows I'm interested in. Kind of leaning toward the Encounter or Heisenberg but not sure if Bronx Tale or In Transit may be worthwhile? (And I haven't even looked at tickets to see whether those are all doable.... not sure if anything is selling out... other than the obvious Hamilton!)

Forgot to mention I saw Dear Evan Hansen off Broadway. Loved it but may as well use my slot for something I haven't seen.
Heisenberg closes tomorrow, so that won't be an option (sadly, since it's extremely good!). Have you seen The Color Purple yet?

Just noticed that! Obviously am REALLY out of the loop.
Yes saw this revival of TCP three times. I've seen all the shows from last season that are still open. Saw more shows last season than ever (all tony nominated shows for every category except Hughie (set design) and Disaster (featured actress). Was pretty proud of that! :))
Wow, that's awesome, ChiTheaterFan! Nicely done!
So if you're exclusively looking at shows that will be performing on Tuesday night, that have opened this season thus far, and that you don't currently have tickets for, I believe that leaves you with: Cats, Holiday Inn, Bronx Tale, Dear Evan Hansen, In Transit, The Encounter, The Front Page, Oh, Hello, and Les Liaisons.
Of those, I'd highly recommend Oh, Hello. And this is coming from somebody who truthfully prefers musicals to plays. It's hilarious.
Try for last minute seats for Sweet Charity.
I wasn't crazy about In Transit (like, at all) and found Bronx Tale to be pretty formulaic and forgettable. I didn't see The Encounter, but reviews were very mixed.

I'll second Oh, Hello. I haven't seen it yet (two more weeks!) but John Mulaney is absolutely hysterical and it's been getting fantastic reviews! Plus it's a limited run (Jan 22) there's no chance of catching it in the spring.

Wow, I haven't been following theatre news at all lately! Heisenberg is closing already? Yeesh.

Oh, hello, Sweet Charity, and Ride the Cyclone are all good options I hadn't thought of. (Kind of absurd I made it to just about every Broadway show last year but never made it to ride the cyclone in Chicago but I didn't!). Thanks all! :)

So I ended up getting stuck at work until like 8:30 on Tuesday and didn't get to add another show. BUT United just sent a notice they're expecting flight delays and they're waiving change fees so I switched my flight and am staying for the weekend and flying out Monday morning. I need a theater weekend desperately. And I got a ticket for the first preview of The Present on Saturday night!
Anyway, Oh, Hello has a show Sunday night so I'm definitely going to see that because there's nothing else Sunday night and I was leaning toward seeing that anyway based on the comments. Sweet Charity is sold out. Other than that I now have THREE extra slots--Friday night, Saturday matinee, and Sunday matinee. I'm thinking I'll likely see Ride the Cyclone but not sure what else. Thinking about the Front Page, which I totally overlooked in my first go-round. Otherwise what are you favorites of this season's shows? Wouldn't mind a good feel-good musical so thinking about Holiday Inn (which I'd also totally forgotten about...) Also have thought about Othello the Remix. (Missed it in Chicago... it was sold out the only days I could go.) Any other comments welcome now that I have even MORE spots open. :)
BTW LOVED Great Comet and very excited for Falsettos tomorrow.
I don't want to seem like too much of a fanboy for the show (since I've been recommending it in each of these types of threads), but I'd highly recommend The Band's Visit at the Atlantic! I doubt you'll have the opportunity to see a NY production again in the nearby future, assuming the rave reviews don't translate to a transfer next season. Yazbek's score is excellent, the cast is terrific, and it's very well staged considering the size of the venue. It's not too heavy a show either, so it somewhat meets your feel-good criteria.

Well, you got me intrigued but it's sold out! Bummer for me but good for the show! Looks like the next day tickets are available is 1/3.

If you want feel good, I think Holiday Inn is a really good choice - I've seen it three times! The whole cast is amazing, Corbin Bleu is especially charismatic and thr score is wonderful.
As for other choices, I believe Tick Tick Boom is closing the 18th? It's a very bare production, but I loved it. In
Skip Holiday Inn, In Transit, and The Bronx Tale. One tells a lazy story. One tells too many stories. One doesn't make sense under scrutiny.

That's too bad! I'm glad you checked it out, though. Have a great time this weekend!
