re: Behind the Scenes: Mara Davi, Drowsy's New Glamour Girl

Am I the only one who was thoroughly underwhelmed?

Davi looks beautiful and dances incredibly, but her voice is extremely nasaly and her acting (which people criticized in "A Chorus Line") looks to be rather amateur.

I'm sure she'll grow into the role with time, but I don't really enjoy what I see here.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I was underwhelmed by Foster, but Davi looks like a fresh breath of air. I doubt I'll see Drowsy again, but that sneak peek makes me want to go back!

I always have the same problem with Sutton's replacements, she is so TALL is almost larger than life, Mara is regular height and so does not stand out as Janet. I don't know, maybe it's personal, but when I saw a Millie understudy, I had a hard time distinguishing her from the rest of the dancers.

Good singing does not a good performance make.

And no one mentioned Janine in this thread anyway.

So I can't bring up the actress Mara replaced? Alrighty!

Janine is a wonderfully versatile triple threat. And I know many enjoyed her in this role. I still think it was awesome she took the final note in SHOW OFF to a top C. While Sutton only took it to an A. I'm assuming Mara is taking it to an A too? It doesn't seem she has the chops for the C.

But oh wait, I can't talk about other actresses in this thread who have played the role.

I never said you couldn't talk about the other actresses to play this role.

But you commented in a defensive way, as if someone had said something bad about Janine, which they had not.

No need to get so testy.

I'm very excited to see her play Janet! I love how she added the back bend, baton twirling, and the rope is cute. She's def talented, no question about that! I think she looks adorable as Janet! I can't wait to see her!

eeek. impressed by her dancing, but she didnt seem funny at all. her "please... no more attention" lacked the hilariousness of how sutton did it when we saw her. she seemed more "cute" while sutton was almost sarcastic and sharply funny. and her voice was so nasal and so so thin... i hope shes better in person. i'd like to see the show again at some point. give her a chance and watch her grow into the role.
