Belinda Carlisle in Hairspray?

Over lunch, I heard a little whisper that Belinda Carlisle is joining Hairspray in July as Velma von Tussle. Apparently, this info came from a cast member and is top secret. I haven't heard this rumour anywhere else, and judging by a quick Google search, neither has the rest of the world. I personally don't belive it's true, but I just thought I'd put it out there. How long is the current Velma contracted for?

I do as well, but I'm refusing to get built up about this because it's too silly, and why would they keep it a secret without at least building up to some big announcement? If it is true, I can't promise I won't shout out, 'Bel, do Leave a Light On!' I bloody love that song.

Ah, hadn't thought of that.

Mmmm, you're right. She only seems to be doing on a week; a Friday or a Saturday. It's unlikely that she'll miss those days if she's doing a West End show.

The current velma started in october, wouldnt have thought she was leaving in July, as she'd have been part of the ball/jones/ellis leaving releases.

But it would be super thing to happen at some point.

I used to love Belinda Carlise, I be at the stage door 8 times a week, but I never comment on specualation, oh is it true that ant and dec are going to play in Priscilla?

I don't think it's true, but there's something in my head telling me that if someone had made it up, surely they'd have thought of a better celebrity? I also think she'd be awesome. Oh, this is an annoying one.

Hate to drag up an old thread, but this rumour has now appeared elsewhere and Carlisle is apparently going in as Velma in October. What do we reckon?

I'm not a fan of Liz Robertson... her voice was very weak and her comic timing was a bit rubbish. A couple of times, I saw Wendy Somerville (Female Authority Figure) as Velma and she was fantastic. Again, her voice isn't great but she was so funny and I thought she was very well suited to the role.

Belinda has officially announced on Facebook that she WILL be Miss Baltimore Crabs 26TH OCTOBER 2009 - 28 JANUARY 2010!
