I'm surprised that I mostly agree with this list.

Brantley said Spring Awakening, was the best new musical. It wasn't last on his list. The list was alphabetical.

LITTLE DOG LAUGHED? Other than the well-written women's roles and the breakout performance of the year by Julie White, this play is mediocre at best.

I'm so glad that he named SHINING CITY, in literary terms, the best play of the year. It really was a beautifully directed, acted, and tightly written piece.

And it's *very* nice to hear Brantley speak so highly of SPRING AWAKENING. It's great to know that the show has his blessing as the best musical of the year.

Judged by the shows I've seen on the list, almost all actually, I agree with his choices. Sometimes I feel his reviews are too extreme, too hateful, too loving. But I agree with the listing.
