Wow Spring Awakening is on the list! Even if it is last... but it still made the list.

I'm surprised that I mostly agree with this list.
Brantley said Spring Awakening, was the best new musical. It wasn't last on his list. The list was alphabetical.
Ah, Smaxie beat me to it.

Posted: 12/22/06 at 8:57pmLITTLE DOG LAUGHED? Other than the well-written women's roles and the breakout performance of the year by Julie White, this play is mediocre at best.

I'm so glad that he named SHINING CITY, in literary terms, the best play of the year. It really was a beautifully directed, acted, and tightly written piece.
And it's *very* nice to hear Brantley speak so highly of SPRING AWAKENING. It's great to know that the show has his blessing as the best musical of the year.

Posted: 12/22/06 at 9:52pmJudged by the shows I've seen on the list, almost all actually, I agree with his choices. Sometimes I feel his reviews are too extreme, too hateful, too loving. But I agree with the listing.

Little Dog- gotta love that show! It's witty, it's dark, and I love it.
And I know I'm not the only one, and, "wait, I gotta take this call."

"this sleeper hit easily qualifies as the year’s best new musical."- Ben Brantley
can I get an AMEN?!?!
#23re: Ben Brantley top 10 picks on Broadway
Posted: 12/23/06 at 8:57amAMEN, brother! Spring made BOTH Ben and Charles' list. Wow..you can't beat Brantley's "Best Musical of the Year" quote, especially come Tony time. Would Charles get miffed if the production went for Ben's quote over his?

Um...Where's Drowsy Chaperone and a Chorus Line? Oh, wait! This is Ben Brantly.
He ruined my day when he panned Poppins.
