Dont forget for all of you who want to see her in the Sweeney revival...she has to be able to play the instrument assigned to mrs. lovett...fluently. She's amazing but thats a pretty tall order!

they said that sweeney and lovett didn't really have to play their instruments... and seeing as it's cerveris and lupone, i don't think they'll be playing the instruments anyway.

WHen I recieved a casting notice months back, both Lovett and Sweeney were assigned instruments. One was a piano, if I recall, and I think the other was a clarinet. But dont quote me on that.

yes, i know about that casting notice. but when cerveris and lupone were supposedly cast, suspicion was raised as to whether they could play the instruments and the producers said that the two leads might not have to play.

That would be par for the course,......the hell with the concept, get a name to sell tickets. I already like the London version better.

I'd rather Cyndi Lauper had played Mrs. Lovett. Patti and Bernie are both so overrated. And to be honest, i was unimpressed with Patti in Noises Off. Comedy is not her specialty.

I disagree. She's very good with comedy. She was a terrific Reno.
Not that it matters, cause Sweeney Todd isn't exactly a comedy...it's darkly funny at points, and i think Patti'd be better at dark comedy than the type you see in shows like Anything Goes, in which she rocked.

Maybe, because it was a musical, it worked for her. But, Noises Off was not the right show for her to do. That is my opinion...still, I got tired of her voice after hearing Anything Goes. She sings everything the same...with brash. Vocally, Evita is the only character she plays when she's in musicals.

Justice, I suggest you find a copy of the Passion concert with Ceveris and Audra. Patti is most definitely NOT playing Evita in that role. She's pretty stunning.

Hell.... it wouldn't matter what show she choose. she's amazing in whatever. And you know if she picks it, it'll be good material. YAY for excitement at her return. I think she is one of Broadway's most amazing talents ever.

I've been saying for eons on this board (nearly a year!!!) that Bernie should star as Fay Apple in a full-fledged revival of ANYONE CAN WHISTLE. It's a brillintn, underrated show, and Bernie does the role tremendously well (she did it in Concert).
Other than that, she needs to star in Sondheim's next new musical, preferrably in a role written for her...

I'll throw my hat in here. I have maintained for a while I would love to see Ms. Peters take on Margaret Johnson in "Piazza". While musically it may be beyond her vocal reach (although she does have a pleasant soprano extension - we just haven't heard it recently), I can't think of anyone more suited to the character acting-wise.

Well said Barihunk, I thought the same thing when I saw it.

Love Bernie and I've been aquainted with her for years but vocally she cannot handle TLATP. I cannot see her in SWEENEY TODD either and I wouldn't hold my breathe or anything else for that matter for ANYONE CAN WHISTLE to be revived anytime soon.
I could see her as Elise in THE FIRST WIVES CLUB depending on the rest of the casting and what the music requires.

I think she is going to orignate a role in a new musical. She's been doing too many revivals these days.

Do the actors really play the instruments in ST? I don't think so...in the dvd that came out 3 years ago, it didn't look like PL played the instrument. Am I wrong?
You either got it or you ain't, and boys I got it!

It a new restaging of the show with a small number of actors, all of whom play more than one instrument.
