Bernadette Peters: Coming Back to Bway??

I've read in this weekend's Parade mag that she has talked to producers and she's thinking about making a return sometime next year. I know her tour probably finishes some time next summer.

What do you think as to what kinds of musicals she's in talks about doing?
You either got it or you ain't, and boys I got it!

She's gonna be Grizabella in a revival of CATS.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I would actually love to see a revival of COMPANY...with Bernadette Peters.

That bad Company revival several years ago probably put a stop to that. Bernadette as Joanne I assume? It's a nice thought, but I don't think Bernie would take that role.

I think she would. She'd get to do another Sondheim.

I'd love her to do the A Little Night Music review instead of Close.

And just in theory, do you you think she could do Lovett in Sweeney?

re: Bernadette Peters: Coming Back to Bway??

I actually was expecting her to be Lovett instead of LuPone. Peters should be in Follies or Company, but who knows if she would take either. I would love to see her in First Wives Club.

hmmm

I dunno about Lovett...but then again, she can do anything, plus she knocked all the doubters on their asses with Gypsy.

I still say she'd be a magnificent Dolly and there has been talk that a revival is due in a few years.

but hey, she's my all-time fav, so whatever she does is fine with me.

I would have been ecstatic if they had cast Bernadette as Mrs. Lovett. It would have meant I could cross off one category on my Tony Awards list because she'd be so genius they'd just hand her the trophy.

I loves me some Bernadette.
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"

re: Bernadette Peters: Coming Back to Bway??

I'll see her in ANYTHING! And hey, in 100 years, she can play Madame Morrible in the Wicked revival!

I'd love to see her in Mrs Lovett! But I'll buy tix to anything she's in...and see it more than once re: Bernadette Peters: Coming Back to Bway??

re: Bernadette Peters: Coming Back to Bway??

Although Sondheim has said that Bernadette does the best rendition of "Send in the Clowns" (and I agree) there is no reason for her to play Desiree. It was written for Glynis who couldn't hold the notes and the character sings 1 and a half songs (Clowns & Glamorous Life). With a voice like hers, why should she do it? Although it might be a good acting challenge and of course she would be brilliant in it.

And her as Mrs. Lovitt..would be a DREAM and I've actually talked to her about it.

Chip - is your Avatar from the movie about the next Bobby Fisher that came out years ago? It looks familiar, but I just cannot place it.

she would be great in just about anything. she is amazingly funny and great. i can't wait till she comes!
Kristin Chenoweth could barely control a Great Dane she trotted onto the stage. "Great, they gave me a dog that weighs five times what I do", she quipped. For the record, she weighs 93 pounds, and has a Maltese.

Whatever it is, I hope it's something new and not a revival.

re: Bernadette Peters: Coming Back to Bway??

I heard that she was coming back as Annie in another revival of Annie...
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Hopefully, she can play Mrs. Lovett when Patti LuPone leaves the show (supposing Sweeney Todd runs that long).

Wouldn't it be great if this was the first Sondheim show to run longer than 1,000 performances?
