Well, it's the opposite sex, as gender is learned and you're born with sex. We're led to believe that his character is a female. ...sorry, huge pet peeve of mine.

Douglas Hodge also won for La Cage, if you count that.

In terms of what the OP is asking I don't think he, or George Hearn, would count, since they were still playing men on stage, just men who happened to be wearing dresses.
