Block wasn't just the standby for Elpheba- before Menzel was hired, the part was Block's. It's just that when they were going to move the show to Broadway, they decided they needed someone with Broadway experience and settled on Menzel instead.

Luckily, things didn't turn out too badly for Block. She got to make her Broadway debut anyway. :)

My picks for best featured actress are Isabel Keating and Stephanie J. Block!!
I'm still undecided about Best Actress.

Idina has to win Best Actress..

as far as Supporting Actress goes:

Carole Shelley, Wicked
Isabel Keating, Boy From Oz
Ann Harada, Avenue Q
Jennifer Westfeldt, Wonderful Town

(those are the definites!)

the wildcard last slot is between:

Laura Michele Kelley, Fiddler
Randy Graff, Fiddler
Becky Ann Baker, Assasins
Karen Ziemba, Never Gunna Dance
Anika Noni Rose, Caroline or Change

Tonya Pinkins
Donna Murphy
I saw all of these women and loved all of them. It is the toughest race this year as they are all winners. I want Stephanie D'Abruzzo to win. I think Donna Murphy will win and she is another of my favorites.

Did anyone see Never Gonna Dance?? Karen Ziemba's talent was COMPLETELY wasted. With such a thorough category, she should not be nominated!
But I won't live alone in a house of regret.

Donna Murphy will most likely win due to Menzel and Chenoweth cancelling eachother out. But I wouldn't write off Pinkins. I didn't love Caroline but Pinkins' role and portrayal are much more poignant than any of the other ladies'. Not that I think the *talented,spot on and lucid* nominating committee would care about such things as talent as opposed to who's more popular. (no pun intended).

Idina should win for Best Actress. Isabel Keating should win for Best Supporting.

I love Stephanie Block but her role was written poorly.

I think Cheno's going to win. I really do adore Kristin, but I think it should go to Idina. I hope it does.

I agree with LeoMaxFrank. I loved Karen Ziemba, but because of the way Never Gonna Dance turned out, I think she's going to be overlooked.

Plum - Stephanie was the understudy for Idina while in San Francisco. She only went on once while Idina was absent from a performance.

I really think Idina deserves to win, she is incredible as Elphaba.

I can't really say who's the "best"! I can just say from a personal point of view whom I think is fabulous and whom I like the most! That would be:

Sutton Foster & Idina Menzel

They're both GREAT performers, smart & tough, self-confident women and they have fascinating and amazing personalities (in my eyes)!!! =)

Only actresses from a a musical that opened THIS season can be nominated.

I think it will be between:

Kristin Chenoweth- Wicked
Idina Menzel - Wicked
Donna Murphey - Wonderful Town

All three were fabulous.
