Milford Plaza- Perfect location, actually attached to two theatres. One minutes walk from Broadway. Spacious lobby, small rooms, as can be expected, but clean and pleasant. The price was right too. I loved it there!
Another vote for the Milford. I always stay there if I can. The price is the best, rooms are good and I love the deli in the lobby.
Which has the most comfortable beds? I think that's VERY important. I'll be at the Marriot, but no idea if the beds will let me sleep well or wake up with an aching back!

I personally like staying at either the Westin (which is my fave) or the Rhiga Royal (hope i spelled it right), which is a few blocks from Times Square (its right near THE COLOR PURPLE)and they are both very nice
but i would LOOOOOOOOOOVE to stay at the Marriott Marquis sometime- its like my dream!
but i heard the elevator is very slow...
Marriot Marquis. hands down.

tgrabon, I second 70 Park Avenue -- lovely hotel, nice and quiet. I'm trying The Muse next weekend (also a Kimpton Hotel) but have had good luck at the Renaissance Times Square, as well.
Crowne Plaza and the Double Tree are by far the best chain hotels on B'Way...
HAHA i'm so spoiled...
last time we were in NYC i stayed at the Carlyle...
Well, if you want a REALLY inexpensive place to stay for a short theatre-related trip to NYC, try the Big Apple Hostel. It's on 45th St between 6th and 7th Aves. I know, I know...a hostel? I have to share a room and sleep in a bunk bed? But you can't beat the price! $30 a night! And you can reserve a room online at hostel.com. It's safe, (24 recepetion) clean, (especially by hostel standards) and with the money you'll save you can see more shows! I have stayed there twice and met a lot of cool people...and the location is perfect!

The Sheraton on 7th is convenient. The rooms are small, but the beds are comfy.

Renaissance Times Square is where we stay. The staff is great and its very convenient.
yeah, Doubletree Guest Suites right in Times Square, I love staying there!
The Ameritania is a great little hotel in a perfect location if you're coming to see Broadway shows. They sometimes have incredible deals on Hotels.com.
And for cheap and right there, the Edison and the Belvedere are always good choices.

The price of NYC hotel rooms is way out of sight. It's the biggest expense when going to the city for a few days of theatre-going. I prefer to stay right in the heart of the theatre district. I usually end up at the Milford Plaza for that reason. If one is concerned about crossing the street, consider that you can see about 10 shows and never have to cross the street if you're staying at the Milford Plaza. It's a shame that the Celebrity Deli (in the hotel), Barrymore's across the street, and McHales on the corner of 46th and 8th are now gone, with more old favorite hangouts to also soon close. It's the price of gentrification and an influx of people to see shows like The Lion King and Wicked that don't ever think to try local restaurants but instead look for Applebee's, The Olive Garden, and McDonald's where they feel more at home.
Other hotels in the immediate area are The Hilton Garden Inn (until recently it was The Days Inn), the Best Western President Hotel on 48th between Broadway and 8th. A great place to eat 24 hours a day is Pigalle on the corner of 8th and 48th. Delicious food at all hours, good service, and modest prices for NYC and if you're lucky you'll spot Michael Cerveris in there.

SNL Media, when you say the Hampton Inn, you mean the old howard Johnson's Motel don't you?
kgee30, the Muse is very nice. The rooms are a tad small, but overall we enjoyed it. Beautiful lobby, good staff, and the restaurant (District) is good also. On our most recent trip, we stayed at the Sheraton Manhattan. I really liked the location. It was a little less crowded just by moving up those few blocks. Our previous trip was spent at the W (B'way & 48th?) just around the corner from the Roxy. Very nice. Others I can recommend are the Renaissance and Crowne Plaza.

I always stay at either The Mandarin Oriental, The Peninsula, or The Alex when I am there, but thats not a Broadway hotel.

I stayed in the W last summer-- I liked it, but I don't recommend it unless you can deal with the ultra-mod style. The rooms are decent-sized, stylish, clean and not overwhelmingly expensive-- just a little dark and modern. The restaurant has amazing sushi. Very convenient to all of the theatres.

The Renaissance is the best, hands down. Beautiful spacious rooms, the best service of any hotel in the city, perfect location, exquisite view of Times Square from its restaurant. My family has stayed there for years. My dad travels to the city probably 2 or 3 times a month on business and regardless of what area of the city his meetings are in, he always stays at the Renaissance, after trying out probably every top hotel over the years.
The W if you have the $$$. The Edison if you don't.

I like the Crowne Plaza Times Square. The Sheraton Towers was nice, but very crowded and under renovation right now. I've got the Residence Inn booked now, but I'm assuming it's standard RI quality, with a pretty great location.
I really didn't have a problem with Paramount, either. It was pretty hip, had a decent location. The rooms were small and the bed wasn't very comfortable, but it wasn't a bad experience overall.
